HBO renews 'Big Love'; polygamy fetishists everywhere rejoice

I’m always a little jealous of people who rally around low-rated, low-wattage TV shows that ultimately manage to claw their way back for one more Read the full post.

I was just thinking this morning that EW was ingoring the new season of Big Love. So thank you for noticing but couldn’t we at least get a weekly Pop Watch entry?
Niki’s mother drives me nuts! The way she talks to that girl, no wonder Niki has so many insecurities. I really hoping Niki is starting to realize just how messed up compound life is. What is Sarah going to do!?

I’m loving the random Mormon comments condemning Big Love, I’m another one of those darn Mormons but I love the show. It’s one of those shows that get even tiny details right. They touch on a lot of the craziness of Utah politics (the Utah Eagle Forum storyline in the last episode was PERFECT!) and they get the culture right on.

Megan–Read what is written in the article above. He is the one calling it MORMON polygamists. Whether the show differentiats or not isn’t the point. It’s that journalists like him (and others) insist on calling it that. That is what perpetuates the myth. I’ve actually had someone (who has never been there) tell me that all the Mormons in Salt Lake are polygamists!
Brett–That’s great it gets the culture right according to you. As long as people stop saying it’s a show about Mormon Polygamists!

Good comment on Bill, Amarantha. He is pretty much my least favorite character on the show. I just want to smack him often. He does try to be a good prieshood holder(?), but then you see how greedy he is with money and other things. He is conflicted. That said, I find his version of a what a man is a pretty unique in the television landscape. Oh and Barb is a freakin saint.

This is great news! This new season has really taken it up a notch and probably made Big Love the current best show on TV. Hopefully the Emmys and Golden Globes will take notice next year. PS. Ginnifer Goodwin’s gonna be a friggin huge star in the near future!

Oh this is the best news! I love this show. I finally broke down and got HBO instead of waiting for the seasons to come out on DVD. And I’m on team Lois–no one does unbalanced quite like Grace Zabriskie.
After last week’s episode, I’m wondering how Margene’s troubled upbringing is going to come back to haunt her. Both she and Nickie seem on the verge of breakdowns.

LOVE this show – I think this is the best season yet! I REALLY love the Sarah storyline; it is something that I experienced myself, although I was not quite as young as she is and my family is PCA Presbyterian, not Morman, but I really identify with her and did from Season 1. As for the ?s posed by the columnist – favorite wife is Nikki – I think it is HILARIOUS that she is on birth control pills, and favorite compound crazy is Louis. LOVE the best friend played by Tina Majorino too. She IS one of those Mormans from whom to hide, but she accepts Sara and her family, keeps the secret, and doesn’t judge because that’s what God tells us to do! Judge not…

I love Once & Again! I’ve been netflixing the first season for the past week and it’s great. I was eleven when the show first came on and I realize now how young I was to be watching that show at the time. But damn it, it was and is so good.

I love this show and I am thrilled it was picked up for another season. It is a great show. Team Lois BTW! That b%tch is crazy!

Ana should not join the Henrickson household. No way. I’m on Team Barb. I love Jeanne Tripplehorn. Her performance is Emmy worthy every year, and it’s a shame she gets overlooked. I hope that Barb will stand up to the more and more arrogant Bill. This is not the life she wants for herself and I hope that she finds a way out of it. Great show. I could talk about it for hours.

I am a huge fan of big love! This season is keeping me on the edge of my seat. Even my boyfriend is addicted to it. I am really glad they will get another season! Go Big Love

This week’s episode “Prom” was amazing! (and a lot better than last night’s snoozer episode of LOST) It managed to pull the heart strings, advance the story and include almost all the characters. I love it when they work in all the grandmothers like this, even if one of them had to die. Grace Zabriski and Mary-Kay Place steal every scene they’re in! They need some Emmy love!

  • Cheryl

An extremely well done show, great acting and very unexpected storylines.
Glad it’s coming back. Love Ana’s character but don’t think she’ll fit in, although a fourth wife would make some interesting changes. Lois is still my favorite crazy.

I love Big Love, but Friday Night Lights is the best hour-long drama on TV right now followed by Lost. As for those other shows that you with came back but didn’t, they were generally pretty bad. Scrubs, on the other hand, is one of the best sitcoms of the last 20 years. How you don’t like it is incomprehensible to me.

I really enjoy this show and am happy to hear it’s continuing on!
Ironically, I was transferred to Utah a few years ago for a job and lived in the very SLC suburb that this show takes place in and the producers pretty much nail their portrayal of the culture of the area.
