A backing track doesn’t have the vocals on it. That’s why it is called a backing track and not a CD. The vocals were live. The accompaniment was a backing track. Haven’t you heard of Karoke? Your friend Meagan must have been smokin crack.

Really…..is this really that big of an issue? We all know she has an amazing voice and she is extremely talented. So what if she used a backing vocal, I don’t think many of you who are criticizing even realize that this technique is used MANY many times by several artists and sometimes the artists do not have a choice in this matter. Whatever the case, I find it sad that instead of showcasing the fact that Hudson even came out to such a public venue after what she has been through with her family, people are ridiculing and ripping on her. How judgmental and cruel can you people get? Could any of you sing like she can, even put on a brave face and try her best to be entertaining so soon after your mom, brother, and nephew were brutally murdered in cold blood? Grow up people, no wonder we have so much hate and crime and crap in this world. People would rather cut someone down instead of encouraging and supporting them……how very sad for America.

Get off the lip sync crap already. I can totally understand why the performers are asked to lip sync. First off, its not like they are singing one of their hit songs. They are singing our national anthem. I think that taking a chance on singing it live and having something go wrong or sung wrong is a great disrespect to the song and our country (whether any such mistake was intentional or accidental). So i’m in total support of pre-recording and playback. The anthem deserves to be the best as its a testiment to this great country. And Jennifer sang it with great conviction and beauty. Who cares if i was recorded. yes, I would have been upset if she had lip synched one of her own songs. But seriously, get over people!

I know she has a beautiful voice. But recording studios can make ANYONE sound like a pro. Again, if she wasn’t up to it she should have passed. (Pardon my poor spelling in previous comments. Now, see, I should have had someone else write this for me and just signed my name to it anyway!)

I’m sorry, but in this day and age when we are lied to from polititians and school board members, teachers and church elitists, as well as food manufactures, just to name afew, when an artist falsifies the true, it just makes you want to throw up your hands and assume everybody and their brother (and sister) is lieing as well.
Yet, I am not altogether heartless. Losing a family member turns your world upside down and the grief can be more than you think you can bare. I feel in those cases the artist sould gracefully excuse themselves from the commitment. The public would certainly understand. But lip syncing to the Nation Anthem??? I thought the days of Millie Vanillie (sp?) were over. Give me a break!

To jaxonya – I’d love to know where you got the info about China making lip syncing illegal. Isn’t that the same country that had a little girl lip sync to a different kids vocals, but the kid who could sing wasn’t cute enough for the Olympics?

That she did it really matters. I think that critics were expecting an orchestra behind her and having her sing it live. It’s hard doing that against that loud stadium crowd and the monitors and the sound system. I thought that she was good. Maybe some people are tired of people lip synching at high profile performances. Maybe that’s why MTV Unplugged was popular in the early ’90s to go against the lip synching of some dance music artists.That’s just what it is.

Guess what folks, the national anthem is lip sync’d almost every year at the super bowl. It is a standard practice as the echo is usually so bad at the stadiums the producers prefer to have it lip snyc’d and need to make sure it runs on time correctly to sync up the jet flyover’s and the rest of the show. Some singers can lip sync better than others.
