The season 8 audition rounds are over, and for those of us who take our American Idol super-seriously, the competition finally heats up this Tuesday and Wednesday with the arrival of Hollywood Week and all its trumped-up, sleep-deprived, group-performance drama. The question remains, though, whether the lackluster tryouts we’ve been watching over the last seven episodes will yield a future Kelly Clarkson or Fantasia Barrino. I’m staying optimistic, but then again, I’ve got to write 2,000-word recaps of 32 more episodes between now and late May, so my happiness and long-term sanity are in the hands of Cecile Frot-Coutaz & Co.
Anyhow, before I descend into a self-induced panic attack, let’s all press play on the newest episode of Idolatry, featuring Annie Barrett, Life.com’s Dancin’ Dawnie Walton, and a certain popular contestant from America’s Next Top Doll. (Fret not: We’re still planning a season finale for that twisted series, but Tyra costuming and wrangling takes time. It’s true, y’all!) Who is your favorite Idol contestant so far this season? I am really fond of the crazy hippie girl, hence my concern about those Hollywood images where she appears freaking the hell out.

I would love to see Carly back! You go, Carly! I am not a big Fantasia fan–sorry, Michael–but I have to admit that Kelly’s song has grown on me. I have been bored by 95 percent of the contestants. Let’s hope we see better in Hollywood (how many sob stories and so-called female singers do we have to be bombarded with?). As always, Idolatry is more fun than Idol.
Oh, and I have been REALLY disappointed with Kara. Why bring in an industry exec and then, like Randy, say nothing. Sigh.

I have no idea. Didn’t love anyone. A few I liked. Too many got by on sob stories and kids. Huh? I hope Norman Gentle goes far but doesn’t drown us with his humor. Just a little here and there.
I don’t see any point to Kara, but if Paula really likes having her on the show then that is nice for Paula. She’s kind of like a pet.
