Was 'Top Chef"s Jeff used as a sex object?

Jeff_top_chef In his exit interview with People.com, Top Chef contestant Jeff McInnis said he thinks the show used him as "some kind of sex object." (Huh? Isn’t that Fabio?) "Every single showthat I’ve ever seen, they have me with my shirt off in the beginning —which is kind of strange. I don’t run around the house naked half thetime like they portrayed me," said Jeff. "It seems like a camera was alwaysfollowing me around trying to find me whenever I’m taking my clothesoff to change in the morning or at night. So, to be used like that isalways fun." Dude! You’re on a reality show where 99% of the wardrobe is boxy white coats. The next-best thing to you with your shirt off seems to be copious shots of Leah toweling off her wet hair. (Seriously, quit showing that. It  makes me shiver.)

Someone whose personal-stats chyron (pictured) tricks the eyes into wondering "Does that say DILDO?" can’t be too surprised at this "sex object" association. Jeff, the only contestant to wink at the camera during the opening credits, needs some perspective. After all, he has yet to be featured in a promo while pretending to use a laptop propped up on his upper thigh, like Padma. That’s how you know Top Chef really thinks you’re sexy. You decide: Was Jeff being used inappropriately?

The writer who does your TV Watch mentions his sexiness (and lack of shirt) all the time as do many of the posters so why this comes as a shock to you mystifies me. Perhaps you couldn’t resist the urge to snark.

SAM the diabetic hottie was the original Top Chef eye candy…and he got a lot further than jeff. Get ova yourself brother! The real hottie this season is Stefan!

  • wendy

I always double take at that dilido name too. It always seems to catch me off guard.

Many years ago when my wife and I were young and mobile, we moved to Hawaii. I taught SCUBA and she was a bookkeeper.
Living in Hawaii was expensive. So we had roommates for awhile.
Most of the time this worked out. We were good at picking the right people. But even the right people had their dark side…
Take Wally for instance. (Wally is not his real name, I don’t want to embarrass the guy if he’s reading… but the story is 100% true.)
Wally liked to have a few drinks every night. Rum was his fave.
Sometimes I’d enjoy a Mai Tai with him and watch the sunset.
Wally was appearing to live a normal life. Had a great job, cool Jeep, and seemed happy and trouble free. And hey… he was living the dream in Hawaii!
    Then his behavior changed.
    He got sick a lot.
He missed work and asked us to “cover for him.”
He would not be seen for a few days…
Then, for a solid week we never saw him come out of his room.
    Until Jeff came over.

Thought it was BS that he was eliminated when he’s clearly a more talented chef than Leah, Carla and Hosea.

  • Adele

    Why is this news?

  • QuestLuv

    Stefan is so smoking hot.

  • Hayley

Eh. I always think of him as a less attractive version of Chase from House.

  • brandi

He needs to get over himself. He was the biggest whiner (besides Leah) and brought no personality to the show.

  • Shannon

Well he is sexy!! Even they way he stood in front of the judges table..his stance was even hot….Jeff should still be on the show..not just because of his “hotness”….because he had imagination and can cook!!!

They showed Mimbo Jeff’s body because there wasn’t anything in his mind to show. Mimbo Jeff never seemed to have much to add to any conversations. Save for one or two episodes, his dishes always seemed scatterbrained and out of touch, like he is.
As for the interview, that whiner vibe reeks of sour grapes. Dude hates on Tom Colicchio (I hate the guy too, but if Chef Tom gave me a chance for self-promotion I wouldn’t trash his restaurant), then goes into why he felt he won his challenge (on technical merits? Ninja please. Dude can’t understand that people like the other chef’s food better. Who cares what it’s called?).
Maybe Fabio got to stay because the audience gave Fabio the “field goal”. Or maybe it’s because Fabio took on Wisconsin food (even though Lufsa, Brats or cheese curds would have been more appropriate dishes for the region than venison) while Jeff failed at making food related to his HOME TOWN.
    What a Dilido.

Well first of all, Jeff is very hard-working chef and he was trying to show the judges that he can think outside the box. He is very talented and very quick. I have had the experience working with him, and he is an awesome guy.

    • Roni

Dilido was the original name of the hotel in South Beach where he works at, before they changed the name to Ritz-Carlton.

Man, I wrote a sweet comment but I don’t think it worked. Sorry in advance if there’re dubs!
First: I don’t care if there’s an extra vowel in there to make it look exotic. Even if I am to really believe that some other language contains that word in its vernacular, what does it translate to? Exactly. Pleasure tool=pleasure tool, no matter how you spell it.

  • Why??

Oh…how i loved those shirtless moments!! I really thought that jeff would win!! Its pretty crappy that the judges didn’t appreciate his dishes!! He was without a doubt the most creative of all the other chefs!

  • crankette

Paul, what are you implying? You lost me. Is is possible you are a writer for Lost?

  • Ashley

A spoiler alert would have been nice for those of us on our way homes now to our DVR!
