Okay, a 'He-Man' movie? C'mon, really?

You know what? Here’s where I draw the line. This far and no further. Joel Silver and Warner Bros. Read the full post.

When will Hollywood stop regurgitating inferior versions of my precious childhood memories?
I’ll be first in line to see it, of course, but when will it stop?!

As much as I like the Dolph Lungdren movie (and I do), it wasn’t exactly the best adaptation of the cartoon, and I would love to see a more serious take on the characters and story. I would also love for them to include a reference to She-Ra, since the two properties (He-Man and She-Ra) go together (even if a She-Ra movie isn’t ever made, although I think one should be).

They will stop doing this kind of thing when people stop being “the first in line to see it.” You can’t bemoan the crapfest while you partake of it.

I read a treatment for this movie over the summer and I have to tell you… it was awesome. I had my doubts after the horrible 80′s monstrosity of a live action film, but if the only pieces of the story I read make it into the film it will be amazing.

The 80s movie with Dolph was pretty bad, but I remember that Langella’s makeup was fantastic! At last … over the top makeup to go with his over the top acting.
Who knows? If the writers could come up with a decent script, it might fly. I wouldn’t invest heavily in it, though. Makes as much sense as investing in Citigroup.
    Good luck, America!

Read this…It’s the NEW He-Man treatment by Justin Marks…If they follow this, then yeah, “you are wrong.” This could be amazing, epic and be the birth of a new, I mean old franchise.

He-Man was, is, and always be incredibly awesome. While “Masters of the Universe” left plenty to be desired, a new effort with a better script and a decent plot for Skeletor, Ork, et. al, would be a hit with all the people who love 80s nostalgia. Remember, “Transformers” wasn’t just a hit — it was a HUGE hit, enough so that “G.I. Joe” got a greenlight as well. This is just one more move down the road to reclaim the past glory days. How long will we have to wait for our “Thundercats” movie rumors??

Aw, man, if you toned down the cartoon colors, darkened this thing down, and totally went completely gloomy with this thing, it would be so sweet. Just imagine how creepy Skeletor would be if you actually made him evil and not just stupid with a weird voice. Then, of course, a She-Ra film would have to follow. (Make Bo a little less girly, though. For her sake.)

Marc, you obviously are out of touch on this one. MOTU still has a huge fanbase of children of the 80s now grown up ready to reintroduce their kids to the franchise just as they were Transformers. I agree, the first film was terrible, but you’re missing the point: people have wanted a decent MOTU film for years.

Yes, I will be one of the first to go see this movie. If it’s done right, and not rated PG with kiddie crap in it, it will be awesome. And judging by most of the comments already left, most people feel this could be big too (unlike you). Skeletor, Trap Jaw, Murman, etc.. they’re all great villians, lookin forward to this one.

  • azaelnocturne

To hate it so much, you sure put a lot of effort into the article. MOTU was huge in the 80s, obviously someone couldn’t find the figure they wanted, then, and have decided to write up a bashfest in the here and now.

  • afanatic

    thanks for posting that clip.
He-man was brilliant. The movie is so cheesy its good. Frank Langella as Skeletor is second only to Darth Vader as best on screen villian. If they make He-man and its epic like Lord of the rings or conan then i will watch it twice. BUT ONLY IF SKELETOR’S FACE IS THE SAME AS IN THE ORIGINAL MOVIE. NO CGI like ghostrider. i want a mask with make up so it looks REAL. and bring back FRANK LANGELLA. How can you not like He-man. the best cartoon of the 80s. well, equal with transformers. x-men was the best of the 90s.

Bernardin, you should have posted this last year when it was still in the new about the movie coming out.
MOTU was pretty decent in the 80′s as a live action movie. Even won an award for best International fantasy film award in Special effects.

Marc, Your comment, “Watermelon-thighed lunkheads shouting “By the power of Greyskull!” is not cool. Never really was.” Not only made me laugh but is an uneducated statement, Masters of the Universe was a BILLION dollar action figure/cartoon. People actually do want to see this if done right this movie could be one of the biggest all time action figure movies ever.

  • Gonza

Yes!! I want to see a decent and real He-man movie at last!! Thank you, Hollywood!!!
