The Real World: Brooklyn is three episodes in, and for the most part, I’d say it is a pretty good season. A transsexual, a cute gay, and a beefcake whose abs could crack my skull? Um, yes please on all three counts.
I’m probably going to take a lot of crap for saying this, but there is one major thing that annoys me so far this season: Ryan and his heinous attempt at a singing career. His vocals are alone are atrosh—they’re tired, way too whiny and forced, and—surprise!—extremely douchebaggy. And: He needs to lose the stocking cap he’s been wearing while playing around the apartment.
Now I know I’m probably not supposed to say all this because he was in the military and went to the Middle East and all. But does that give a person a free pass to sing awfully on TV? Seriously, if I could, I’d kiss that record producer that basically told him to go away in the last episode. He probably did more good for Ryan because—finally!—someone told him the truth. His roommates certainly weren’t going to.
PopWatchers, I found a pseudo-tribute video (huh?!?) to him on YouTube. (No stocking cap in the video, but a totally awesome and expertly frayed baseball cap instead!) Take a look at it below and then let me know: Do you agree with me? Or are you swooning over the Jason Mraz wannabe? How do you feel about the line "My grip is tight / on the weapon that I hold" from his song? (I hate it.) Let loose in the comments!

Ahhh he’s been one of my favorites so far. I like this season but yeah I could do without some of his singing for a little while
If he thinks wearing a cap of any kind, picking up a guitar, and attempting to sing would even remotely remind anyone of Jason Mraz, he better get a different promoter or agent.
I have been to two Jason Mraz concerts and he is such a diverse and talented individual, with an excellent band to showcase his talent. If all you ever hear from Jason is from the radio, you are missing so much more that he has to offer.
BTW, Jason Mraz is the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this Saturday January 31st.
I think what annoys me more is your use of the term “tranny”. Does Christian Siriano work for EW?
Agree, not swooning, hate it too
the cute gay guy and the beefcake are the only reasons that i’m watching this season. the closeted mormon just might be the reason i stop watching before the season ends
How dare this kid not live his life the way you desire Tanner. The audacity of some people.
I’m not even watching the season, but I did catch the episode when I was channel surfing a couple nights ago, and I was “treated” to Ryan’s performances. I don’t mind if he likes to sing and play- everyone needs a hobby. I just wish MTV wouldn’t put it on the TV, because he’s not very good.
that is soooo bad….red white and blewwwwwww!
This guy is a total moron.
This is a great cast and I look forward to seeing how they grow through the season. Ryan may well be the sweetie of the crew, and if his writing and singing help facilitate that, then sing out Louise!
he’s just figuring out what he wants to do with his life, which wasn’t singing-focused up until he got to the house. i think he can sing pretty good tho, you ass wipe.
what are you talking about?!?! Ryan is soooo dreaming, I love him!!! love love love him!!!!
This person is terrible and needs to get outta here. Quick!
i loved it when the producer dude gave props to military fratboy and his very special and very straight mormon fratboy friend, and then told him to go suck an egg. not to mention he got kissed by a tranny. if the hollywood kids from last season couldn’t get famous, all these dudes have to look forward to is losing on those challenges. sometimes life is sweet!
Sorry, don’t agree… I loooove Jason Mraz and I feel that he’s the only good cute male singer-songwriter with that style. (Jack Johnson doesn’t count; he’s too laid-back and boring!) There’s definitely room for him and his awesome voice and cute face. Now if he could just write some good hooks… I’d totally buy his album.
