Apple and Steve Jobs, Happy Anniversary! The Mac Turns 25

Originalmaccomputer_l

If you’re spending your Saturday morning like me, you’re looking around the web on your ‘puter — I’m a Mac, perhaps you’re a PC? — and you also saw a story or three about the Mac, Steve Jobs’ingenious invention before his other ingenious inventions like the iPod and iPhone, turning 25 today. With all the news around Jobs’health these days, it’s nice to be able to gnaw on the thing(s) that made Apple, and the man behind it, great.

Check out our gallery of things we’d like to thanks Mr. Jobs for — his contributions to pop culture have been indelible, and quite edible. (If you missed the link, click here.) And join us in wishing Mac a happy 25th birthday!

This is a rather bittersweet anniversary for me. My Macbook is currently in Kernel Panic Mode, which I guess means that it is, to put it simply, broken. I have to wait three more hours until my appointment comes at the local Apple store.

After years as a PC user, I finally converted to a Mac-lover after experiencing the glory of my friend’s Macbook a couple of years ago. I now have a Macbook Pro and an iPod, and I love all things Apple. If I was richer, I’d probably own every single Mac product available.

Aw, I had that actual Mac in the picture! Got it my senior year of college. It came with 1 whole MB of RAM! Woot! I upgraded to 4 for a big chunk of change. Now I’m on my 4th Mac and still loving it!

That computer looks so cute. Where can I get one?

For one too-brief, blissful year, I used a Mac at work and absolutely loved it. Someday, as God is my witness, I will be a Mac user again :)

You can probably still buy one on Ebay.

I had an original Mac, purchased right before I entered grad school. Man, that computer was my salvation–made papers so much easier, logistically speaking, anyway.
Just 128 kilobytes of RAM and no extra disc drive. The first year I owned it, I became used to swapping program and data discs back and forth. After about 18 months, I had the thing converted to what was called a “Fat Mac,” 512 k-bytes of RAM, plus a ROM upgrade, and I bought an extra disc drive. A great machine, although I’m very happy with the innovations that have come our way since 1984.

My dad is the kinda guy who wears t-shirts that say “Once you go Mac, you never go back,” so I was indoctrinated at a young age. We got one of the early Macs after our old Apple IIe kicked the bucket. It blew my mind. I was lucky enough to use a Mac through school, college, and my first permanent job. I never used a PC until grad school four years ago, when I got suckered into buying a Dell Inspiron. I will definitely go back to a Mac once it dies. It’s so…ugly.
