Clooney returns to 'ER'! Maybe!

Clooneyer_lSo according to those crazy "Internet reports," George Clooney will be back on the set of ER this week to shoot a cameo for the show’s final season. This is not particularly shocking news — it’s been hinted at by costar Noah Wyle, the producers pretty much came out and said that a cast of thousands would be returning, and when I spoke to Goran Visnjic here at Sundance, he said to expect a lot of familiar faces in that there finale.

But as Anthony Edwards put it to me yesterday, "Is there even gonna be a finale?" Edwards — who’s also at Sundance — is alluding to the fact that NBC has added three more episodes in what is turning out to be the TV equivalent of a bad breakup. The Man Who Was Mark Green says he’s participated in his last flashback, but now I’m wondering who all else they’re gonna haul back to County before the ER era comes to a close. Is it too much to hope for some Maria Bello up in here?

Anyway. What do you think, PopWatchers? Happy for a return from Clooney? I think it makes me like him more — as though that’s possible; George, call me — to know he appreciates his roots. How do you think the cameo should go down? And who are you still hoping to see come through those ambulance bay doors?

Definitely want Dr. Ross to come back, as well as that other doctor…the one that was like best friends with Greene, the blonde, after Ross left? She went away for awhile, then came back and was chief…does anyone know who I’m talking about?

I agree – even though George could hardly get any more perfect, this would cement it. Wouldn’t it be nice for him and Julianna to come back as a still happily married couple? What a rarity on TV.

I was struck by some comments Clooney made a couple of years ago at one of those American Films honors were he was feted.
He mentioned how lucky he was that ER was put on Thursdays instead of Fridays and how fortunate he was to be a part of that show.
This was a guy who was being honored as a big-time movie star who clearly remembered the many failed pilots he shot, the short-lived series and the struggles along the way. I became a fan for life just for that. You don’t hear many movie stars talk about how lucky they are.

I would love to see Doug and Carol come into the ER with the twins.

I think you are talking about Susan (who was Marks intern to start the series) Last info on her she was following Cloie (her reformed addict sister and baby) I think she ended up in Arizona(?)

The gal that was great friends of his was Dr. Susan Lewis. She had a crazy druggy sister. I agree, I would love to see her back!!

Dr. Susan Lewis played by Sherry Stringfield is who you are thinking of. . .

I agree! I think it’s a great thing for him to give a tip of the hat to where he was able to make his big break. I would have been sad and disappointed if he had decided it wasn’t worth his time to come back for the finale.

We need Kellie Martin’s character back. No, that was in poor taste, I guess. Although, to note, other than “Love Labor’s Lost”, “Be Still My Heart” (where Lucy and Carter get stabbed by David Krumholtz’s character) is the ER episode that I will never forget.
Everytime I hear “Battleflag” by Lo Fidelity Allstars on the radio or TV, my stomach gets sick thinking about the end of that episode….

How about Eriq LaSalle and William H. Macy? But definitely Clooney and Julianna Margulies.

  • George

Bring in whoever it takes to get rid of Cardellini and her kid
