Today we celebrate a man responsible, among many other things, for perhaps the most famous inspirational speech of the 20th century, and tomorrow the nation will bear witness to perhaps equally historic feats of rhetorical uplift and warm fuzziness. But what about the inspirational speeches of cinema? As this what-did-we-ever-do-without-YouTube mash-up demonstrates, they all pretty much follow the same basic, goosebumply formula. Enjoy!
As a holiday bonus, after the jump, I’ve embedded Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s aforementioned "I Have A Dream" speech. ‘Cause, hey, you’ve (hopefully) got the day off, so why not take some time to reflect on why?

The inclusion of “Newsies” in the mash-up elevates it to awesome beyond awesome. And thanks for the MLK.
That was totally fantastic. And he may have come way before MLK, but Shakespeare sure had a way with words and the St Crispin’s Day speech is one of his best. Plus the music from the St Crispin’s scene from Henry V always helps any uplifting scene/montage.
This is the clip of the month.
Picard, Newsies and the St. Crispian’s speech make this the best mash-up ever.
You guys are about a month late in posting this, but I never get tired of this clip. (Newsies-era Christian Bale! Why must he play such broody characters now? It’s a total 180-turn from the ones he used to play.)
ferris bueller! hahaha… i was so not expecting that… yet it fit!
