Now that the high school football drama has returned to free network television, my Friday night television schedule seems to be vastly improved (especially because other faves of mine, like Lipstick Jungle, are no longer on).
Last night’s season 3 premiere was raw, emotional, and captivating—basically, it was everything and then some that we’ve grown to expect from FNL (you know, the kind of stuff that makes you want to scream, "How the heck have NONE of these actors ever been nominated for an Emmy??").
I am so pleased to see that Tami (Connie Britton, pictured left) has been promoted to school principal. Her new power role is sure to provide lots of conflict— and head-butting— with Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler, right), a.k.a. her husband. I think it’s safe to say that there will also be lots of opportunity for conflict with the new superstar quarterback, freshman J.D. McCoy, and his uptight, controlling father.
For more recap and commentary on last night’s episode, be sure check out Ken Tucker’s TV Watch. And in the meantime, share your thoughts below on the series’ return to NBC. Were you able to hold off on reading spoilers from when the season aired on DirecTV? Finally, "Does anyone else out here feel like you deserve a smoothie?" Because I think you totally do.

Great show. One of the best on TV.
I watched the season on DirecTV, but rewatching this first episode on NBC was just as fullfilling as the original. I hope that this show hangs on ratings wise because I can’t imagine Television without it’s best show.
omg, omg, omg! awesome, awesome, awesome!!!! This is the absolutely best show on TV that no one is watching. Every moment was pure gold. Not a wasted scene, or character in the whole hour! How is this show not garnering awards by the dozen? I couldn’t even begin to choose what scene I liked best. Viva La FNL!!!
FNL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I completely geeked out for last nights permiere. I am glwaad to see that it is back to its season 1 greatness. How has this show not won a tons of awards!
Finally! FNL, I’ve waited for you for so long! This episode was pure brilliance. These actors are incredible; how do we start an email campaign to get them some Emmy love?!? Like Tyra said, “I don’t accept that fate for myself…” We’ve got to turn the Emmy tide in FNL’s favor!
Does anyone know how the ratings were?
I’ve seen all of S3, but wanted to watch it again because s3 has been the most amazing journey! Best season hands down.
Awesome episode, brilliant acting. Let’s hope the ratings are good enough for season 4!
One of the best shows ever.
I was just so gleeful that it was finally on again! Yes, I totally read the recaps from last fall anyway, but that doesn’t matter. I don’t need to be spoiler-free to enjoy these amazing characters.
I hope they let us see all 13 eps and don’t get all crazy on us and yank them off the air. You never know with network tv anymore.
Just keep watching the show that is the only way to get it renewed make your friends watch make your friend friends watch it.FNL Season 4
my favorite show – great acting.
I am a FNL diehard fan. I had the luxury of watching season 3 before airing last night on network TV. I was horrified and disappointed as to how many scenes NBC deleted. They completely butchered the show. I will continue watching to support the show despite the “butchery.” Unbelievable.
It’s the best show on TV bar none. Thank goodness it is back on.
I had to work, so I can’t wait to watch this afternoon! LOVE FNL. However, the parts that are being cut to air on NBC…will they be on the DVDs?
