Want to see Amy Poehler work for the parks department in Indiana?

Amypoehler_l_2According to Zap2It, Archie Arnett’s mama’s upcoming NBC sitcom will follow The Office’s general documentary style and revolve around a similarly clueless boss: "Set in the parks & recreation department of a local city governmentin some podunk town, Poehler will play a delusional employee, totallyunaware that she doesn’t work in high ranking politics." To me, this screams less "Michael Scott" than "Lieutenant Jim Dangle" (Thomas Lennon’s character on Reno 911, pictured), so I can only hope that Poehler’s character will conduct meetings in the slightly NSFW style of the Reno Sheriff’s Department.

THR.com reports today that Upright Citizens Brigade player Aubrey Plaza will costar as an intern to Poehler’s deputy chairman in Pawnee, Indiana. I’m already loving the improv potential of this show, not to mention we already know Amy Poehler looks cute in earth tones due to her stint as G.O.B.’s army wife on Arrested Development. So there’s a plus. WOW, that’s a stretch. What about you — do you like the parks department concept?

    No thanks……

Amy Poehler is NOT FUNNY. All she does is make stupid faces. How can this person have a show? No wonder the networks are dying.

Where do you get “park ranger” from? Judging by the “high ranking politics” mention in the description, I would have to believe that working for the parks & recreation department means she works at city hall.

  • Alaina

Being a native Hoosier, it gets very tiresome when our entire state is typecast as ’small town podunkville’….I live in the freaking 12th most populous city in the country, not all of us are hicks!

  • Emma

I like Amy and I think she’s funny. I also love The Office. However, I think this show will be horrible and tank. I have a bad feeling about it.

Here here, Alaina. And the parks and recreation department definitely indicates “park ranger,” not anything to do with city hall. You don’t have to work at city hall to be a government employee. Though you may have overlooked this detail, park rangers and others are employees of the state/local government, and therefore could delusionally consider themselves high powered politicos. Even so, the show sounds a bit weird to me.

I’m kind of surprised that no like this idea as much as I do. I think it sounds great. I love the style of the Office and I can’t wait to see Amy on TV again. Woo-hoo!

  • Alan

I like this idea! I think it’s going to be pretty good and pretty funny and Amy is a pretty-looking pretty funny lady.

I don’t think the concept is that important…Poehler is just funny and I’m sure she’ll do great.

Ned – “Set in the parks & recreation department of a local city government”

I LIVE in Indiana!!! I cannot WAIT to see what Amy Poehler does to us poor, dumb Hoosiers! (seriously, you said “podunk” and man do we fit THAT description!)

as soon as i saw this would be set in a parks department, my mind immediately went to Reno 911. :D so i see i wasn’t alone. i can’t wait to see this, i love the office, i love reno 911, and i love amy, so i’m sure this will keep me entertained.

I live in Indiana, too, and I know people like this. I can’t wait. Small town politics = fertile comedy ground. Amy will be great.

I completely agree with those who say the actual concept isn’t that important…the “Office” style is hilarious, Amy is hilarious. She’ll be surrounded by great improvisers. Its gonna be great. May take a few episodes to catch its stride (as The Office did) but it will do well – I think Amy’s name will make NBC give it a chance, more than just one ep.

Amy is hilarious, and since my husband is from Indiana (which means I have to visit from time to time), I’m sure we’ll be watching.
