I am today’s worst person in the world. Or perhaps yesterday’s. Heck, I’ll take the title two days running. You see, yesterday marked the birthday of uni-monikered diva Amerie, and while I found time to purchase her underrated 2007 single "Take Control" and play it 26 times on repeat loop — no, I am not exaggerating; iTunes doesn’t lie — I failed to publish a celebratory post on PopWatch. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? (No, I’m not talking about my penchant for "repeat loop.") The only way I can make up for my crimes against divadom, as I see it, is to entice all of you to watch the hot-ass video for "Take Control." It features an inescapable bass line, a thrilling spy story, and a flawless runway-strut boogie from Amerie and her backup dancers (performed while breaking and entering!). I’ve been an Amerie fan since 2001’s Why Don’t We Fall In Love. I’m with you Slezak, how is she NOT a bigger star!
she is not a star b/c she is too hot. she crossed the line over into white sun hotness. People can try to relate to hot girls and it be semi realistic but they know they can never achieve white sun hotness, so then they dump on that person.
My theory is that Slezak is soo hyper for the Idol premiere that all else pales in comparison especially D-list R&B singers. LOL

Her song “This one thing” is on par with Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” for most useless/annoying song ever. I can’t decide which one I dislike more.
Amerie looks great–but can’t sing! Another reason why she isn’t a bigger star: Too many Aaliyah copy cats out there. Ciara. Ashanti. I’m sure I’m forgetting a couple more. They all came on the scene after Aaliyah’s death–and all look and sound alike.
The song wasn’t a hit because Amerie and her manager got annoyed with Sony for screwing around with the release date of her third album. Amerie left Sony and has signed with Island Def Jam. She should have a new CD sometime this year. Her main sin at Sony is she isn’t Beyonce. She’s actually better than Beyonce. Amerie may be hot but she’s not an idiot and her sister is an entertainment lawyer.

Amerie is better than bk in that she is honest but bk is the better singer.
The reason she isn’t a bigger star is Beyonce has to bring out a new album every Monday morning, not giving anyone else a chance to chart.
Love Amerie. Loved this song, and was disappointed the CD was only released over seas. Thanks for the post- I checked Amazon and Sony released a “greatest hits” collection that has many tracks from her third CD. I’m thrilled to hear there may be new music soon- she should have been HUGE!
the reason she’s not as big is because of the “it” factor, and i know that may seem a cheap cop-out but it’s the only way i can explain it, for example, britney doesn’t write her own music or sing well… however something about her ever since the begining has intrigued people, that’s the it factor…. amerie makes fanastic music, and is a very cool person, just doesn’t have the it factor… also comparable to keri hilson, fantastic writer, good looks… decent singer… but no “it” factor
It factor isnt it, it is bc of lack or promotion & singles released. Britney got fame bc her 1st single “1 more time” was cathcy for all the young girls she was tryna reach, & the vid was cute. Brit kept this up by releasgin girl orientated songs w dancing in the videso.
Amerie is hot, she is beautiful, and yes she can sing… she just needs that song with the undeniable hook. “1 Thing” was almost there, “Touch” lost all the momentum though with that played jungle-vibe. So now she’s back to square one. Get her with a good producer, or at least a hot one (Timbaland, The Dream, StarTrak) and she’ll be a household name in no time. Believe me, Amerie! I’ll send my bill later.
Love Amerie, her third album was really good, although it was never released in the U.S. I’ve been very frustrated that she’s never become as big a star as she deserves to be. Will she even make another album? I hope so.
LOL at white sun hotness!! It’s true! I love Amerie. She needs a label that believes in her. 1 Thing is like, the best R&B song of the decade to me.
I love Amerie. I enjoyed her first two albums and I liked this song and video. But, seriously, can someone explain the video to me because I just don’t get it! She was spying on the senator and the photographer (who was spying on her) so she could kidnap the senator(!). Lots of confusion.
Anthony is dead on right, Amerie does not have the “it” factor & she is a pretty limited vocalist. The “pretty but cannot sing” title is already being held by Rihanna so that just knocks the other pretty girl out. People can hate on Beyonce, but she delivers time after time. Her dancing is fantastic, she is very pretty, and shocker the girl can actually carry a tune. Plus her live performances are awesome. Amerie just doesn’t have that “it” thing. You don’t see imitations of her videos on You Tube.
Amerie always has the best first singles… “Why Don’t We Fall In Love” was and still is amazing, “1 Thing” was great, and “Take Control” is fire. I was really surprised it did not take off over here. I almost ordered her LP import but it proved too costly. I like her a lot but I think her albums tend to rely too much on the slower stuff when she sounds better in songs like “Take Control”
I love all her music and not because of how she looks. If that was the case i would buy her cd just to look at her pictures. Her second c.d. showed alot of power n her voice just think should have used diff songs for singles. Luv ya no matter wht you do with your beautiful self just keep makin music.
