'24' season premiere, part 2: So what did you think?

Categories: Television

Four episodes in two nights? That’s a lot of 24 to absorb. If you’ve already watched tonight’s adventures, I want to know what you thinking. Did you like what you saw? Are you investing in the Sangala storyline? How about the First Gentleman’s search for answers about his son? C’mon, talk to me.

And don’t forget to check out my TV Watch in a few hours, when the West Coasters will have caught up, and we can recap the heck out of this double shot.

It’s asking us to suspend disbelief quite a bit, but then 24 always has. What matters is that it’s thrilling, fun, and well-acted again. SPOILER: Tony and Jack’s interactions/banter were terrific, and it was good to see Chloe being awkward in a good way (i.e. socially inept a la Seasons 3-5, not poorly written, a la Season 6). When she told Jack that in spite of his maltreatment at the Senate hearing, he looked good (in a suit), a nearly lost it. Welcome back 24. You have been missed.

I’m glad that I was actually interested in other things besides Jack a few times during the episodes. I’m totally in to the whole Sangala thing though the First Dude is really starting the annoy me. I was a little disappointed by the last episode but everything else was a welcome return. I’m just going to pretend like Season 6 never happened.

I’m loving the Jack/Tony stuff so much! I honestly don’t care too much about Sangala or the First Son…but I do like that they’re connected…and that we actually saw the First Son in Redemption, so that allows me to care a bit.
But regardless, I’m still loving these episodes!! Renee (aka, could be a female Jack), Chloe the Second, and of course, Jack and Tony. It’s so good to have these two working together again!!

  • Arron

I loved 24, there is always a twist, you never know who is working for who.
and yes Jack is back! and what’s left of CTU.
how does the government turn their back on the people who have saved their butts more than once.

  • Patrick

I totally agree. It was great to see classic Chloe back. It’s also nice to have episodes that actually feature Jack and not Non-stop Ricky Schroeder

  • R Rothchild

Very enjoyable. 24 seems to be back on track.

  • Deb in Chicago

A LITTLE SPOILERISH: I think it is great so far. Twists, suspense, action, fun – everything I hoped for. The Jack and Tony apology exchange was good, and the Chloe and Janis cyber fight was funny. I know we are asked to believe alot, but wouldn’t the First Gentleman be able to have his son’s death investigated further, legally, if he tried?

Im likin this season so far, im not digin the first gentlemen but we will see if that storyline gains any more interest. I do dig the fantastic 4 of bill, chloe, tony and jack. A team like that? .. unstoppable.

  • Glenn

I loved the tech battle between Chloe and Janis Gold (Janeane Garofalo), kinda like matter meets anti-matter.

  • Lynn Roeth

We have been faithful 24 fans since the very beginning! LOVED the first 4 hours! Good to see Jack, Tony and Chloe working together. Thought Bill looked GREAT!

  • Alex

My opinion of season 6 is that it would have been an excellent storyline for any show other than 24, it would have been fantastic, but it just seemed a little too familiar, especially following the critical/commercial peak of season 5.
day 7 is off to a great start, i appreciate that the writers are taking the time to develop all the new characters, giving us more of a slown burn than the nuclear blast that started day 6.. ie, I already care more about Agt Walker than Ricky Schroeder, and think she’s a pretty worthy successor/partner/romantic interest/however they spin it.
and as someone whose watched from the beginning, i smiled the same smile i did when Jack and Nina temporarily teamed up against the commandos after the plane crash in season 2… there’s nothing like watching Jack interact with someone from his past that WE know, not something manufactured for us like the brother/father were done.
Great job to the writers! I can’t watit to see what happens next!

The first night definitely worked as more of a setup, but the second night blew me away. I loved the twist bringing back Chloe and Bill (didn’t really see it coming), and I’m also loving the idea of the four-man team of Jack, Tony, Bill, and Chloe. This could definitely be the best season yet of 24. Oh, and I love Janeane Garofalo. Janis vs. Chloe was epic and awesome. I am definitely looking forward to the rest of Day Seven.

  • Annette

Loved it – especially the fine tag team of Jack and Tony!

To quote Studio 60; “The people who makes television are not smarter than the people that watch television.”
Am I the only one that feels dumbed down every time we’re reminded of the plot through dialog like; “He’s our only lead.” “If we don’t get him, we wont get to (insert bad guys name here).
I’m ready for the writers to start respecting us again by writing decent dialog. It’s better than last season, but not up to par with the first two seasons.

  • tinceymama

My husband and I thought it was awesome. It is classic 24 and seriously Russell if you feel so dumbed down…write your own show.

  • Laura

24 is back, and it’s back with a vengeance! For any naysayers to the last season, that is. I think the new season is so totally rocking, every moment makes me remember why I love this show in the first place. It’s so hard to tell who’s good, who’s bad, and who’s bad playing good…. and then they’res Chloe, who’s just plain badass. Go Jack Bauer, and GO makers of 24, because you rock!

  • Omacolt

The first hour tonight is classic 24. Chloe helping Jack and Tony escape. Perfect. 24 isn’t the most difficult show to figure out if you watch it long enough. I can say the lines before their said. That doesn’t detract from the show, it confirms I’m in tune with the writers. This season has potential. The president’s story is always more difficult to tell because it usually lacks Jack for most of it. Having Africa as the bad guy is not the best selection. Hopefully it will get better. I knew Tony wasn’t going to be the bad guy. He didn’t kill anyone in the first two hours and the writers could of shown that right away if he was for effect. When he didn’t I knew he was up to something. 24 is melodramatic. The characters are over the top, the story is not the strongest, but it’s still a fun show. Bashing the show based on logic is not the route. If that’s the case with you try and explain why the Brady Bunch had one bath room and no toilet.

  • Lenne P

My idea of Heaven: Jack and Tony, battered and bloody, in the back of the van looking at each other with a mixture of tension, mistrust and “Boy am I glad to see you again. I think.”

  • t

AWESOME!! i was caught off guard when i saw that tony was actually still a good guy!! and hes gotten sexier too!!, i really believed he had gone bad awesome writers this season

  • Mr. Williams

Thus far, I’M LOVING IT!!!! Tony working undercover was a cool surprise twist, though I kinda figured it out, well sort of. I especially enjoyed the classic computer clash between Chloe and Janis – just goes to show that there is always someone smarter. The best show on television right now.

  • karen

dissappointed……First 4 hours Jack didn’t torture anybody. Agent Walker did…but it didn’t seem like her heart was in it.Loving the concept though it is alot like the last Vince Flynn book I read. Mitch rapp infront of Congress having to explain himself but still saving the U.S. from terrorist plots.

  • tydeforever

It was classic 24. Tony giving Jack the “code” because he knew Jack would snap his neck (he’s been there)… then them feeling each other out to see how trust worthy… then there is Chole – I love her

  • Anonymous

loved it!!! but I do not like agent Walker trying to be Jack Bauer light

  • KLF

I thought for a second that Jack and Tony were going to chest bump and call each other “butthead” before blowing stuff up! I love this show and Bill Buchanan is a smoking hottie! Glad Tony is “good” again and that 24 didn’t drag that plot line out until mid-season.

  • loved it

But I really want to know who in the government is involved. I thought we might get an inkling by the end of last night.

  • Tabitha

And the Angels descended from Heaven And sang to the skies “Jack is back”.

  • Kellan

The Jack & Tony Show is going to be the BEST season ever. I’ve enjoyed every season of 24, but this one has started off so great. I knew Chloe was coming back, but Bill was a pleasant surprise. My only requests for this season are seeing Aaron Pierce, and Jack & Tony in some sort of shirtless scene together. Simultaneous torture would be fine, since we know they never get too hurt. I am so fricken happy that 24 is back!

  • The “A Team”

Jack, Tony, Bill & Chloe = the new “A Team”. LOVE it!

  • Dorothy

Finally something good to watch on TV- I am so glad 24 is back and back in a great way!!! Jack is back! it was awesome to see Jack and Tony working together- can’t wait to see more- and the foursome of Jack, Tony, Chloe and Bill will be a force to reckon with. The only thing I was not happy with was the First Gentleman. He’s seem to be a weak character. I agree with Deb in Chicago why couldn’t he have had his son’s death investigated legally?
But I did love the cyber war with Chloe and Janis- go Chloe- Keep up the good writing and keep us on the edge of our seats. I love 24 and look forward to it every week. I have watched it from the beginning.

    Fantastic go CTU renegade style
