This 'movie trailer' has too much extra baggage

Ugh. Press play below for the "movie trailer" that played at Angelika Film Center in New York, right after three decent trailers and just before Doubt. Hold your breath for the "big reveal" at the end!

Having somehow never been subjected to this nonsense before, my reaction was a simple, dead-eyed "No way," but most everyone else in the theater just laughed. Not with it. Atit. Severely.

Anyone wanna go buy some effin’ luggage?

    HAH
That “trailer” has been playing at every Laemmle theatre in LA, and every time it is revealed to be a Louis Vuitton commercial, the whole audience usually LAUGHS.
    It never fails.

That is the dumbest thing ever. I can’t believe they throw that into the middle of trailers. It’s bad enough we have to watch those stupid music videos with Kid Rock and Three Doors Down that are really just weird ads for the national guard or something like that, but now we have to watch ads in the middle of the trailers too?

    MUST….BUY…..LUGGAGE!!

  • Jane

I’ve been wondering what’s been missing in my life. Why is there a constant void and why do I feel the lack? What could possibly fill that void and make me feel complete. Now I know- I just need to buy a purse. Thank you, Louis Vuitton!

I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU POSTED ON THIS! I saw Slumdog Millionaire there a couple weeks ago and everyone around me laughed (i.e. gave the finger to) this advertisement. Way to keep it classy, Angelika.

  • Peter

I didn’t think a Liuis Vuitton bag has the ability to set my life into a journey. I must go and spend $2000 to go buy one now.

  • Rebecca

at first i was thinking it was going to be some weird documentary then when i saw it was a louis vuiton commercial i just laughed. that is the dumbest thing to put in between trailers!

I thought it was a visa commercial, but about halfway through you see the LV image.

  • Sharlin

    LMAO

I guess they figure that if you can afford to buy evening tickets to a movie you can afford overpriced luggage.

Same thing happened at the Angelika in Houston. Two people – at opposite sides of the theater – actually said, “What the F*ck?!” Another person said, “As soon as I get some bailout money!”

I HATE COMMERCIALS AT THE MOVIES!!!!!

I hate commercials at the movies and this ad trying to be trailer is even more bullshit…but they advertise everything now toys, soda, clothes, shoes, government agencies…i want to see trailers. and then the movie. thats it.

  • Un Francais a Hollywood

I’ve seen it too at the Angelika. This is awesome advertisement. everybody’s talking about it, it’s well done, etc. Good job LV. If you’re pissed, you’re pissed at yourself for not understanding earlier what it was. Too bad for you.

I absolutely love that ad. I saw it on CNBC a few weeks ago, and have been obsessed with it since then. That music gives me chills (it’s the same artist that did the music for Brokeback Mountain). I think it’s a beautiful add and very well done. Now, to put it in a theater as a ‘trailer’ right before the movie does seem to be an odd placement…

  • LoveItInFargoND

Correction: Beautiful Ad not Add. I’m a little distracted right now!

Beats that awful awful D&G advert by Baz Lurhmann…oh how I miss his Strictly Ballroom days.

  • AM in LV

I read through a few comments before playing it, and I actually thought it was going to be a Las Vegas commercial. So I’m watching it thinking they are getting way too serious. And then I see the trademark LV logos on the bag in the middle and figure out which LV everyone was talking about. I was relieved.

  • mjryan

I saw this at the Angelika in Plano, Texas a few months ago and had the same WTF reaction that you did.

  • grey

having no clue what it was i was expecting the worst/funniest stuff i could imagine – and yet there was no way to predict LV. i frakin laughed out loud. oh angelika what will you think of next?

  • Marty

My wife and I saw this (or similar) ad on TV and she saw one of the brief images of the LV logo and said that it was a Louis Vuitton ad. I thought, no way. But sure enough it was. It still does not want us to go out and buy a purse that costs as much as a used car.

  • jen

lol, did Louis Vuitton really need to do this? their print ads are already awesome. and 1 minute 36 seconds??

  • Ignorant

I have no idea what the Angelika or Liuis Vuitton are. So I’m laughing at you all.

  • anonymous

i thought this was the trailer to the alchemist and was like oh no!!!!

  • sam

this ad has been playing for months (yes it is absurd), but you are a little late in your frustration

  • Toddie

That is HILARIOUS. If I thought Louis Vuitton had a sense of humor, I’d wonder if it was intentional.

  • Alex

I think you’re taking this a little too personally.
“things that make me die inside”?
It’s a lousy, stupid commercial. Move on with you life. Did it really deserve a blog post dedicated to it?
It frustrates me that you have this awesome job at EW and you use it for crap like this.

  • DanOregon

I can hear Don Draper’s voice uttering those words over a slide show and the client “LOVING IT.”
