Last night’s Ugly Betty was rather heavy, what with Ignacio being struck down with a heart attack and all. Read the full post.

I agree with the commenters who think Betty was in the right and Ignacio and Hilda were too hard on her. How long has Betty been working at Mode and they don’t already know that she’s almost always on call? And they had no concern that she might really be fired if she did not fix the problem?
Latina Chick, I see your point. I’m not Latina myself, but I work with a lot of Latinas and they’ve told me some of their families’ expectations of them over the years. My problem with this episode, though, was that the change of attitude by Hilda and Ignacio was SO out of the blue. Just a few weeks ago, they were cheering Betty on when she was applying to YETI, but now their noses are out of joint because she can’t make Hilda’s re-opening? It just felt like a poorly thought out and poorly written episode of an otherwise wonderful series. And I agree with everyone who wants a proper TV Watch. This show deserves it!
Oh, and Jamie, thanks for the info.
Glad it’s not just me that wanted to slap Hilda. One minute she’s supportive of Betty and the next she gets pised because Betty is on call? Grow up! You’re business is in the family home, for crissake! It’s not like you have a store in Astoria.
I totally LOVE this show!!I thought it was a good episode. I felt sorry for Betty. I also thought Hilda said the f word. I thought I heard wrong.
The heart attack was so contrived that I didn’t feel sorry for none of them. It made no sense and was stupid. So Betty’s family keep tellling her she has to fight to get to where she wants and praised her for getting into Yenti yet because she wasn’t there to bag a couple of lotions for Hilda she was disappointing her family. I understand the writers want to cause conflict for Betty but they need to do it another way. Seeing Betty always being a “YES” person to her family and co-workers is beyong annoying now. After all these years she still doesn’t have a backbone. And Betty was there for Hilda letting her use her apartment to sleep with a married man. So Hilda needs to shut it. Horrible episode. But loved seeing Tracy from Hairspray again.
