Idol Chatter, a religion and pop culture blog, recently posted an item with its picks for the Top 10 Jewish Movie Characters. Mordechai Jefferson Hammer (Adam Goldberg, pictured) from The Hebrew Hammer came in at No. 1, because he was the most frequently referenced character when the author of the list solicited nominations from her Facebook friends. (I think it’s poetic, then, that I found out about the list from my Facebook friend Jonathan Kesselman, writer/director of The Hebrew Hammer, who said he was honored using a metaphor I can’t print.) Check out the list — which also includes Star Wars‘ Obi-Wan Kenobi (Sir Alec Guinness, pictured) at No. 5, and Julius Levinson (Judd Hirsch), Jeff Goldblum’s father in Independence Day, at No. 4 — then tell us who you would have nominated.

What no Yentle or Tom Cruise from Tropic Thunder? Tevye? Oy! This list is schtick dreck!
Hey before opening the link I was saying Judd Hirsch better be on here so I’m happy
Obi Wan was jewish? Uh… yah, ok.
There’s no religion in Star Wars!
I like the list but don’t think of Obi-wan is Jewish. What about Yoda or Mel Brooks’ “Yogurt” instead? Use the Scwartz!
Also from Spaceballs, I’ve got to give some love to Princess Vespa, moviedom’s greatest “Drewish princess”.
Since Bana’s portrayal of a real life guy counts, I’m wondering where the love was for Lenny Bruce? That Jewish fella had more game than Hasbro. Dude took on the man, stretched the rules of what was acceptable speech, changed the way we perceived stand up comedy AND married a famous stripper. Best part? The character was played by Dustin Hoffman.
Also, Jeff Goldblum’s character from Jurrasic Park was an absolute badazz. I don’t know if the character was meant to be Jewish, but he was still pretty awesome.
Still, a pretty decent list overall…
Adam Goldberg’s not Jewish?
