We all know the alluring power of the TV marathon (see: my recent 13-hour first date with NCIS), and we all know that we’ll have plenty of suitors on New Year’s Day (see: the list below). I, however, believe the decision is simple: Go Bones. TNT is showing 16 episodes, from 8 a.m. to midnight. It’s the perfect opportunity to see why this Fox drama — starring David Boreanaz as goofy, gut-driven FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth and Emily Deschanel as his excessively literal and rational partner, forensic anthropologist Temperance "Bones" Brennan — made our 2008 list of the 10 shows you should be watching. This stretch of episodes, from Season 2’s "The Girl in Suite 2103" to Season 3’s "Mummy in the Maze" (pictured), is pretty killer. The ever-present sexual tension (hands-down some of TV’s best), makes every episode worthwhile. But if you’re only willing to give the show 120 minutes to win you over, tune in for "Aliens in a Spaceship" (11 a.m.), when two members of the team are buried alive by the Grave Digger, and the aforementioned "Mummy in the Maze" (11 p.m.), in which we learn that Brennan always dresses as Wonder Woman for Halloween and Booth is afraid of clowns. Suddenly, you’ll "get it."
After the jump, a rundown of some of your other New Year’s Day TV marathon options, which you can flip to when Bones is at commercial.
A&E: The First 48 (8 a.m. to 11 p.m.)
Bravo: The Biggest Loser (8 a.m. to 10 p.m.) — Subtle!
Cartoon Network: Looney Tunes (6 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
Discovery: MythBusters (9 a.m. to 3 a.m.)
GSN: Let’s Make a Deal (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
History: Ice Road Truckers (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
Sci Fi: The Twilight Zone (started Dec. 31 at 8 a.m. and continues through 6 a.m. on Jan. 2)
SOAPnet: Private Practice (9 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
Spike: CSI: NY (9 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
Style: Ruby (8 p.m. to 2 a.m.)
TLC: Ashley Paige: Bikini or Bust (6 a.m. to noon); Inside Brookhaven Obesity Clinic (noon to 6 p.m.) — Not so subtle!
TNT: Bones (8 a.m. to midnight) — Just reminding you.
Travel: Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations (3 p.m. to 3 a.m.)
TV Land: Leave It To Beaver (9 a.m. to noon); The Brady Bunch (noon to 6 p.m.); The Cosby Show (8 p.m. to 2 a.m.)
USA: Monk (6 a.m. to 6 a.m.) — Another veteran show worth giving a chance if you just haven’t.
VH1: New York Goes to Hollywood (7 a.m. to 11 a.m.); Hogan Knows Best(2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.); 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs (7 p.m to 11 p.m.)
WE: Momma’s Boys (3 p.m. to 1 a.m.) — Lame or genius? It’s just the first three episodes playing on repeat.
WGN: The Honeymooners (10 a.m. to 10 p.m.)

I’ve seen the entire season of Ruby so far, but I’ll be settling in to watch it all over again. Love her!
I am sooo there. I missed a bunch of episodes in the second season, so I’m taking this as my chance. LOVE Bones!
It’s tragic that you left off the Absolutely Fabulous (AbFab) marathon that’s on BBC America today. It’s a must-see!
Bones is great, but New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day is all about The Twilight Zone at my house. Well, we might have to squeeze in a couple episodes of No Reservations as well.
Sorry folks, but New Year’s Day is all about college football!
This is hysterical – I’m new to Bones as of a few weeks ago and just finished Season 1 on DVD last night. It’s been my plan to for the past week to have a Bones marathon tonite and tomorrow! Currently up to ep 3 of Season 2…oh I love Booth!
Target this week had a great box set sale but it was wierd for Bones. Only S1 & S3 were on sale, leaving S2 at regular retail price of $45! Whatever, I bought the ones on sale (S1 & S3 only cost me $35 together) and I’ve been enjoying S3. My mom just got into Bones at the end of S3 and I want her to see them from the beginning and maybe S2 will go on sale next week.
if I still have Spike tomorrow, CSI NY it is, if not, The First 48 it is
@BJohnson – you could always check out Half.com for Season 2. Looks like people there are selling brand-new copies starting at around $25 plus $3 or so in shipping.
For the record, I do sanction the interruption of a marathon to watch the Rose Bowl — if you’re rooting for Penn State.
Wait, I’m sorry: a channel is just repeating three episodes of a reality dating show over and over? Holy crap. That is ridiculous.
Yay for pimping Bones! And those have got to be among the best episodes of the series, you go TNT!
I think I’ll also be watching the Looney Toons. Ah, childhood, how I miss you.
All I need now is my morning coffee and to hit play on my DVD Player. Let my Bones marathon continue!
Also theres a sort of marathon of “American Idol” on Fox Reality
Hey, don’t forget that tomorrow USA is airing an all-day marathon of Law and Order: SVU episodes. I’m DVRing them all, and I’ll have to delete some older Law and Order eps that I haven’t watched yet to fit them all. SVU is the best!
If I had cable, I’d totally be lovin’ up some “Monk”…but I don’t. Christmas/Boxing Day was a two-day “Sharpe”-a-thon (you know, the Masterpiece Theatre series with Sean Bean?); New Years Day sees me checking EW.com
, and celebrating our newest arrival, an XBox 360 (we’ve been saving for 2 years, so this is a big day indeed!). I spent my break at work yesterday making character sheets for “Oblivion”. My husband is at work today. Zee Xbox ees mine!!!
Gossip Girl. All day.
Right now I’m enjoying Cartoon Network’s Looney Tunes marathon. There was a time when the Tunes seem to be on every channel; now they’re not even on the one channel that’s supposed to show them, and I’m hoping CN starts running them again.
OMG thank you! I’ve been watching Bones on DVD and it is fantastic – and am almost up to season 3 so I’m firing up the dvr and taping those from the marathon! Any suggestions on how to get the first half of season 4 before the rest starts up again?
This is a marathon worth watching. These episodes definitely span when the show was actually GREAT! I’m not very satisfied with Season 4 right now. So I can watch this and reminisce about the good old days.
Love Bones! I have all seasons on DVD but any excuse to watch more Booth/Brennan action gets my attention anyday!
My only complaint about the episodes they chose are that they weren’t the best in terms of Booth and Brennan’s relationship development which is THE crux of the show. Other than that it’s a great marathon: my sisters are very quickly becoming addicted in my favorite show as the TV has been tuned in all day. College football on one TV, Bones on the other…perfect! Hopefully the marathon increases the “Bonesheads” exponentially. It’s just such a great show and deserves all the cred it can get.
I LOVE all the seasons though not just the early ones. S4’s “Conman in the Methlab” is one of the best in the entire series.
I loved the Highlander re-runs. Nice seeing the series again.
Happy New Year.
I purposely woke up in time to watch the Bones marathon… Watched all but 3 of the episodes I think.
