No offense, but this is one of the most pointless articles ever. It’s like seeing pictures of a girl your friends want to hook you up with, and listening to them sing her praises for six months before you finally meet her. Then when you finally DO meet her, you can’t help but be disappointed that she’s not as perfect as you thought she’d be. If you aren’t going to evaluate things objectively and without the influence of hype and sizzle, you are setting yourself for disappointment regardless.

Absolutely agree. I also just saw it and while it was enjoyable it was just too much of a mess. First it was more Harvey Dent’s story then Batman’s. Batman almost seemed to disappear behind his mask and his high tech gimmicks. Second, while Ledger was a fine Joker, for a guy who does know planning, he managed to do a whole ton of stuff that would require an army to plan and pull of.

I agree with you 100%. I was amazed at Heath Ledger and I loved Michael Caine, but the rest of the movie was just good. I didn’t think it was AMAZING as so many people were saying, but I still enjoyed it. To me, the hype didn’t ruin it… but it sure did disapoint me to some degree.

I agree to some extent. Although the film received a massive amount of pre-release hype, I tried not to wrap myself up in it too much. I’ve been a Batman fan for a long, long time, and I thought that “Batman Begins” got the character absolutely right. At the very least, I expected it to be on the level with that film. As it turned out, it wasn’t even close. The major problem was that the Harvey Dent/Two-Face storyline simply was not necessary and should have been saved for a later installment. I have no quibbles with the performances, but this film had major problems. All in all, one of the most disappointing films of 2008.

Derek L., How the heck can you say TDK was a disappointment of ’08? There is no way that it is disappointing. BATMAN IS EPIC!

Where exactly is the DVD review? I cant find a word regarding featurettes, the director’s commentary (or lack thereof), inclusion of a digital copy,et al.
This article is nothing more than an empty, opinionated review of the film itself. And to say that the success of this film is predicated on the death of Mr Ledger, is an insult him, Mr. Nolan and everyone who enjoyed the heck out of this film.
Do us all a favor and do what you are paid to do. Leave the FILM reviews to people more qualified to do so…

I can certainly relate to being disappointed in a movie that was over-hyped. That is exactly how I felt about Titanic. I was thrilled to see that The Dark Knight seemed able to outgross it. Sadly, it could not.
I do think The Dark Knight lives up to hype, though. I think the performances, the cinematography, and even the score all staggeringly captivating. I was so entertained by the movie I could forgive the fact that the last 30 minutes are a little weak.
I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys any of the following: a strong ensemble cast, superhero movies, cinema with dark social commentary, or even a love triangle hidden within a thriller.

I really didn’t like The Dark Knight at all. I’m a huge batman fan but I thought that the movie was at least an hour too long and the acting by Christian Bale was awful-who’s usually great. I also think that Heath Ledger was over-rated he played crazy well, but I don’t see Oscar worthy.

it certainly would have been a huge hit, definitely the biggest of 2008, because of the large number of repeat ticket buyers the movie had. What made it a phenomenon was the curiosity surrounding Heath Ledger’s performance. Without an opening weekend in the $150-160 million range, it would’ve come close to the $400 million mark, which is still gargantuan.
