The first time I saw her in person was on Broadway in Timbuktu, and at he Fox in Detroit, I shall always remember her as Cat Woman in the Batman series of the early ’60.

I love all things Eartha but the role that solidifies her place in pop culture for me is her role in Boomerang. She was so funny and self effacing in that role.

I recall an old Batman rerun in which she played the first black catwoman. She was 110 times better than Hallie. My favorite moment was her commercial for (I think) Three Musketeers chocolate in which at the end of thd ad she purrs. That was amazing. She will be missed.

I have a rather odd memory of her..she held me in her lap while I was getting vacinated! No lie..it was the mid sixties, I lived in Harlem, New York. And there was a sort of a block party held celebrating a medical clinic opening up at 115th Street & Lexington, near P.S 57, where I attended 1st Grade. Mayor John Lindsay was there and I believe RFK as well. As luck would have it, I happened to be 1st in line of students who were getting vaccinated and Eartha Kitt was there for the photo op. She put me in her lap, I howled my head off as I got my shot, and the photographers got their shot. I remember my mom was sooo upset with me for’shaming the family’! My brothers used to tease me about it..

2 memories. Ms. Kitt called me over to her at a party and told me I had wonderful rhythm, then she & I danced together. Later she saw me and said “There’s my dance partner,” and kissed my cheek. I think I called everyone I knew that night to tell them what had happened. Another time Ms. Kitt was standing next to me at a BCEFA benefit when she took a swig of my beer, saying “Don’t you know when you have too much wine, you should have a little bit of beer and it calms everything down.” I was terribly saddened to learn of her death. She was wonderful!

The world is a sadder place without Eartha Kitt. I first saw her in London in 1980 and then coulnd’t stop going to her shows. She once played with the London Harmonic on the South Bank . . . it was probably one of her best performances. I will miss you, even though I have never met you, it was a comfort that you were always there . . . One day I will see you.

Kitt was a guest in my home many times,in the seventies. She loved to play the Plush Room in Sanfrancisco. Besides her great talent she was also an astute business woman who held onto her money. I will miss her.

Forgive my double-posting this from another site…
I had the great honor of performing with her. About 7 years ago a playwright/composer named John Meyer wrote a musical/thriller play entitled “Zazou,” about a Josephine Baker-type chanteuse who murdered her blackmailing ghost writer. If that part WASN’T specifically written for Ms. Kitt, it certainly should have been! There were some backers’ auditions staged in NYC, and I was hired to read the stage directions as well as provide the voice of her talking parrot. (I should also mention that the blackmailer was portrayed in this reading by Christopher Durang.) For the first time in my life, I understood what “star quality” was… because, honestly, even in rehearsals, in her sweats and jeans, she absolutely commanded the room. She was great fun and generous to all of us, and even though the play never made it past those auditions, we felt like it was opening night on Broadway because of her dazzle. Wow. Thanks & blessings, Ms. Kitt.

With the purrrrrrrrrrrfect last name of Kitt, Ms. Eartha Kitt was the ultimate Catwoman in the “campy” Batman TV series of long ago. I was a kid who watched her on the show like a canary bird in a cage watching its ultimate pursuer – the cat. And Ms. Kitt could also be that “canary bird” when she sang her cabaret-style of
    singing. What a talent!

The Ultimate Top Diva, Queen Empress has been set free! I love u Eartha Kitt always. You are truly a one-of-kind, indescribable, timeless, classic, and sexy as hell beauty and talent that my children will surely know of whenever my 24 yo self has children!!! I may be young, but most kids my age don’t appreciate real talent and royalty. Whenever I saw her, she would do something to give me chills…Maybe its because I have a deep appreciation for the arts is why I adore/cherish artists like her so much. She was soooo much more than just an artist, she made a path for everyone! Not just4 women, but4 wmn of color period!I held back tears when I learned of her transformation, but GOD never makes mistakes. There is so much more I can say, but I’ll close by saying EArtha Kitt is truly blessed and will live 4ever. (Check her out on a throwback episode of Living Single…watch out Kyle!) I Love EARTHA KITT. Long Live The Royal Empress!!

I’ve never met Earth Kitt, but I’ve seen her in the Disney movie “Holes”. I also sawher live years ago when she was playing the role of the “Wicked Witch Of The West” in the U.S. National Tour of “The Wizard Of Oz”. She was amazing as both in the movie and as the green skined witch on the Tampa Bay stage. I miss you Eartha.
