There’s nothing I find more appealing about a streak of multiple vacation days than the glaringly obvious opportunity to watch an entire season or series of a TV show. Play it right, and yours could be an experience completely devoid of external nagging, internal remorse, and/or you lugging your ass off the couch. My top 5 prospects are listed below:
1. Skins, series 1 (iTunes mixed in with single-ep screeners I snatched from an unsuspecting Tim Stack) I happened to catch episode 9 ("Effy") on TV a few weeks ago, and have since been holding out on what I’m convinced will be the most scandalous eight hours of my entire vacation, to be closely followed by the upcoming Great Barrett Family Caper entitled "Who ate the last blue sugar cookie shaped like an angel?" circa December 27.
2. Twin Peaks, Definitive Gold Box Edition (DVD) I still have the series’ eerily beautiful (and perfect for playing on repeat while writing a senior thesis) soundtrack on cassette tape, and know exactly where Princess Thursday’s "Fire Walk With Me" quote came from, and yet I’ve never sat for even one full episode. Into the woods with me!
3. Life, season 1 (DVD) It was just sitting there on our giveaway table. WTF?
4. Freaks & Geeks (DVD) It’s in my top 5 series ever, but my sister’s never seen it! I’m practically saving her life.
5. Chuck, episodes 3-present (season 1 on iTunes, season 2 is *free* on Hulu) As of right this second, Chuck is the currently airing series I most regret not keeping up on. If I’m not up to speed by January 4, I will fire MYSELF.
Tell us what TV marathons you have on your event-less horizon!

I willw atch one of the following this break: House, Arrested Development or Buffy. I cannot decide.
Annie, you are going to LOVE “Chuck” Season Two; I can almost guarantee it.
As for me, I’ll be working on “Freaks and Geeks” as well. Don’t tell anybody, but I’ve still only seen the first six episodes, so I’m really looking forward to watching at least a couple more discs over this break.
Also, I just got LOST Season 4 on Blu-Ray for Hanukkah last night, so I’ll also be spending the break catching my dad up — he just finished Season 3 — while simultaneously geeking out over the gorgeous visuals.
I’ll also be mixing in a little bit of Simpsons Season 11, Robot Chicken Season 3, (rewatching) 30 Rock (both seasons, and Family Guy Volume 6 (for the commentaries).
Looking ahead to 2009: I’ll be starting on “Spaced” and “Undeclared”, both of which I own but have never gotten around to yet.
Almost forgot the ones at the top of my Netflix queue: Buffy Season 3, HIMYM Season 3, and Battlestar Galactica Season 2.5.
Yes, I am a busy busy TV bee.
Who cares about what series I need to catch up on (there are a lot)…Can I please come and take advantage of your give away table???
I’ve finally decided to watch the second half of season 3 of Battlestar Galactica. I had stopped due to that horrendous doctor episode. I can’t say the second half is better. I’m actually considering just not watching anymore of it.
I already watched the end of Kyle XY season 2 since season 3 is coming next month.
I’m thinking about finally watching season 7 of Gilmore Girls.
However, I am also preparing to read much more than usual.
I’m currently watching the first season of Mad Men, the second season of Big Love, the fifth season of The L Word and the second season of Skins (I have a region free DVD player). It’s gonna be a wonderful holiday season!!!
Haha, I got “Sports Night: The Complete Series” for my birthday, and have been saving it for this week when, Hanukkah-celebrator that I am, have absolutely NOTHING to do thanks to everyone I know fleeing the city. I also just bought “Scrubs” season 7, but couldn’t resist diving into it this past weekend since it was only 11 episodes
Doctor Who – Season 937 (or 4 since the reboot)
I LOVE TV on DVD. This holiday break, I will be catching up on series I loved but episodes I missed from Will & Grace Season 8 and Reaper Season 1 (I only caught about half of the latter, and I LOVED IT, but the CW schedule kept on screwing with me). If I have time, I plan to go through every episode to date of 30 Rock and How I Met Your Mother, both of which I curse myself for not having watched when they first aired. Funny, funny stuff!
Oh, Annie…so glad that Skins is at the top of your list. EVERYONE should watch it. I only have one episode left, and I don’t know what I’m going to do when it’s over.
As bizarre and obscure as this sounds, I have been working on the DVD set of the 80s mini-series “The Blue and The Gray” (aka “NOT ‘North & South’”), so I’ll finish that up. Then it’s all Sports Nite Super Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition Box Set, all the time. Family? What family??
I’m working on the 24th AND the day after Christmas, so my job is doing to keep me off the couch, not some fantastic TV on DVD marathon. (Not that I’m bitter or anything.)
MI-5 and Dr. Who/Torchwood; hubby is currently enjoying is his annual marathon of Babylon 5.
I am currently in the midst of a Big Bang Theory marathon ( disrupted by having to go to work and answer PopWatch questions on the sly). After Christmas, I shall be watching the glorious Freaks and Geeks collection my children are getting me for Christmas and if they’re good little girls, I might agree to watch a Hannah Montana season one marathon on Boxing Day.
I’m hoping – yet again – for the Kids in the Hall box set for Xmas. That’ll definitely take up quite a bit of time.
