I watched Trapper John, M.D., too, but I was a teen when it was on. However, I don’t remember any of the storylines, either.
I watched Three’s Company when it was on, and thought it was hilarious. Years later, when I saw it again, I wondered why my parents let me watch it, and how I could have thought that it was funny. John Ritter managed to transcend the writing, though.
I watched Columbo because I thought he was funny.
Back in the day when my father was still renting Disney nature documentaries for us to watch, I was having sleepovers at a friend’s house so I could watch Dynasty and Miami Vice. I wasn’t allowed to watch them at home, I was way to young!
We watched Dallas as a family, which is so bizarre in hindsight. I was probably 7, so my little brother was 5, and my sister was 10. My brother was the biggest fan! Gotta love it – he played with He-Man, but come Friday nights, he was all about Bobby and JR.
I used to watch Miami Vice as a kid – probably no older than 7.
When I was younger, my mom and sister were addicted to Twin Peaks, so naturally I also watched it. I had to be around eight at the time and I couldn’t tell you how I knew all of the characters or who was sleeping with who, but I did know that Bob killed Laura Palmer and the diner in Twin Peaks served ‘damn good pies’.
I was probably the only three-year-old who habitually watched Julia Child on PBS. A few yeas later, I loved watching Falcon Crest and St. Elsewhere. (Why my parents let an eight-year-old watch Falcon Crest, I’ll never know.)
I was big into soap operas, and I haven’t the faintest idea why?
Mandi – you kill me! Au Pair and Au Pair II!
I wasn’t allowed to watch Friends as a kid, but my parents DID allow me to watch 90210…that has always seemed weird to me.
As a kid of 8 or 9 I watched syndicated reruns of ‘Charlie’s Angels’ on afternoon TV – hey, it was on right after ‘Scooby Doo’! (Kelly was my favorite Angel, by the way.) My sister and I also watched ‘Love Boat’ and ‘Fantasy Island’ at insanely young ages, so all the cheesy innuendo and cabin-swapping went right over our heads. Good times.
I was a huge Dark Shadows fan as a kid, but recently caught an episode on Hulu and wondered why…
When I was in the fifth grade (1999-2000) I would come home every day after school and watch a two hour block on MTV of Daria, Real World: Hawaii, and TRL. I’m surprised I wasn’t scarred for life when I saw Teck and Ruthie jump in the pool naked. I was only ten years old for crying out loud!
Being such a “goody-two-shoes” as a child, my anomaly was watching “Soap” in 6th grade. I was the only one in my class that did, so I had to give a synopsis to everyone every week! At first I sort of snuck around to watch, but eventually, my parents watched with me! We were major fans! I still remember my favorite quote – Benson: “You want me to get that?” (when doorbell rang)
Dallas and Falcon Crest were mandatory viewing in our house. The whole family watched them together every week.
I used to watch shows like DALLAS and FALCON CREST threw a hatch we had in our kitchen that looked into the living room where the TV was, then I would go back to my younger sister (and she was about 6) and tell her whats happening, then eventually my Mom found out (or I told her) and then she allowed me watch, little did she know that that was the start of my intense TV viewing habits!
