Sherlock Holmes way hotter here than in my highbrow literary fantasies

Categories: Film, Sexytimes

Robertdowneyjrsherlock_lWhen I first saw the image at left, one of the official photos released for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, I wondered — why would a detective walk around without a shirt? But after staring deeply into the slicked-up abs of Robert Downey Jr. portraying the young Holmes, I amended that thought to: Why wouldn’t a detective walk around without a shirt? RIGHT? Those men in the audience don’t seem to have come around to my way of thinking — all of them are facially expressing something along the lines of "Bitch, please." They probably just need to use some deductive reasoning.

Is anyone else suddenly interested in seeing a movie called Sherlock Holmes? Raise your hand! Now take off your shirt! Bitch, please.

DEFINITELY going to see this. Especially since RDJ is in it…

  • Jim from Saint Paul.

Welcome to your glimpse of the male psyche.

  • clair

I am thinking Sherlock Holmes meets Fight Club.

  • Catherine

I will watch anything RDJ is in, so if he’s ALSO without a shirt…

  • Matt

It’s been a while since I’ve read any Sherlock Holmes stories, but I don’t recall him ever being a pit fighter.

  • Anna

I have an unnatural love for anything and everything Sherlock Holmes, so I will inevitably go to see this movie. I wish I could avoid it, though. I don’t think that even my lust for RDJ will stop me from cringing through a Holmes adaption that makes him into some sort of macho action man.

  • Sara

Not bad, for however old he is…

  • Jen

I’m so excited for this movie, as a RDJ nut and Sherlock Holmes junkie. The SH stories do mention that he boxed when he was younger, which helps explain this picture, at least a little bit.

  • LisaMama

I’m more excited for this than I am Wolverine — and that’s saying something!

  • Verity

I was already in several months ago when I first heard the names Robert Downey Jr, Guy Ritchie and Sherlock Holmes mentioned in the same sentence. But now that I’ve seen this photo, I believe my faithful support has been vindicated. Me-ow!

  • Michelle

I was in the minute they said Robert Downey Jr.

  • paige

    annie your hysterical

Amazing how RDJ gets hotter as he gets older. I was never a big Sherlock Holmes fan, but anything with RDJ has my interest, and I can’t wait to see this movie. I also strongly recommend he considers public appearances without a shirt as often as possible.

I thought I was excited about this movie before! People don’t realize how young and “active” Holmes was in the books, especially at first. And bringing Irene Adler into it, the only woman who ever got the best of him, is amazing. Not to mention I’d probably pay to watch RDJ read from my Constitutional Law textbook.

As a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, I’m psyched for this reimagining, particularly the Downey part but not sure what I think about Guy Ritchie being the one to do it. Also good choice with Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler, she is interesting

  • Vcitoria

    Ummm… yes please!

Sherlock Holmes has always been hot. I don’t know what books you were reading. He’s 27 or so when the stories start, and described as an expert boxer, singlestick player, and wrestler (baritsu). Watson, though, is actually supposed to be the hottie (he talks about his “experience on 3 continents” with women), and Jude Law looks absolutely fabulous.

  • Nina G

    More please!

  • Nicolletta

    RDJ = Yummy!

  • LA

To me this film signals the complete exploitation and degradation of the Holmes stories. I hope the heirs of Conan Doyle sue to stop the making of the movie. Holmes was not a ripped martial arts expert–Sherlock “Crouching Tiger” Holmes! He was a pipe-smoking detective who spent most of his time in his room, thumbing through books. Just read the stories.

  • spiderman

When I first saw Robert Downing Jr.,as Sherlockhome, I wonder why haven’t they use Jude Law. He would best Downing Jr, cause he’s english. It must be popularity those Bastards!.

  • Jaime

RDJ is proof that you CAN come back from the brink, and still be successful!!! I hope he continues to do well.

  • Mozz

hmm, those abs are meant to distract us from the fact that the director is Guy Ritchie. I’ll wait for it on Hulu.com.

  • wakeforce

My 43 year old ex who refused to go to the gym should look at these pictures! Maybe then he wouldn’t be my ex!

  • purewitz

This movie just gets worse and worse. Whats that I hear, oh yeah that’s Sir Arthur Conan Doyle rolling in his grave.

  • Cricket

For those of you saying he shouldn’t be ripped, a fighter, etc, please go to the bookstore and buy one of the books and actually READ it. Holmes’ physical prowess was mentioned several times throughout the books. Besides that, he was also a young man when he first started his detective work. If anything, this movie is truer to the books than any of the previous films made. Here is a reference: The Sign of the Four, Holmes introduces himself to the prize-fighter McMurdo as “the amateur who fought three rounds with you at Alison’s rooms on the night of your benefit four years back.” McMurdo responds by saying, “Ah, you’re one that has wasted your gifts, you have! You might have aimed high, if you had joined the fancy.”

  • Dawn

mm, mm. i still blush just thinking about him as iron man. this only feeds the fire. :)

  • To Cricket

    You tool.

  • Frog

to purwitz: aurthur conan doyle hated sherlock holmes. He tried to kill him off a couple of times as i recall so i dont think he really would care how he is portrayed in a movie.
Personally i think it looks good.

  • J

    YES PLEASE!!!
