'X-Men Origins: Wolverine': Rate the trailer!

Is it wrong that, upon seeing the trailer for this X-Men prequel exploring Logan’s origins, the first thing I thought was, "Is that facial hair real, or is it makeup?" The second thing was, "How come Wolverine spends so much time crouching, with his arms extended as if he could flap his arms and take off?"

The third thing was, "Stop picking nits, you idiot. Look, there’s all kinds of explosions and fights and adamantium claws digging into the asphalt and baby Ororo Munroe (a.k.a., Storm) and Liev Schreiber’s Sabretooth running on all fours and Gambit and Deadpool and, yes, it tickles all of my geek erogenous zones and we are totally there because it’s gotta be better than Punisher: War Zone and we saw that one opening weekend."

(Yes, I talk to myself in the Imperial third person. It amuses us.)

What about you? Are you onboard for the Sexiest Man Alive’s fourth stab at Wolverine? Or have you already had your fill of wacky beards and bulging pecs?

It can’t be worse than X-Men: The Last Stand.

  • Chris

    This will be Daredevil bad.

  • Stephen

I like the trailer well enough but I actually think Wolverine is boring and overexposed. That’s why I’m more excited about all the side characters, such as The Blob and Gambit and is that Emma Frost about 2 minutes in?

  • John

No the story and Jackman looked like they sucked. Even the Atlantic had a quick piece stating it looked like it sucked. As others said Gambit (whose Taylor whatever from Friday Night Lights), the Blob and all the side characters were the only cool part of that trailor.

  • Melgaye

I can’t wait to see Gambit. It looks good..it’s got to be better than the Last Stand. Maybe you fanboys won’t like it but us Fangirls will LOVE it.

  • Rich S.

    Another…freaking…prequel.

  • MrFord

I don’t know about some of the other comments. Gotta be honest, the trailer seems pretty cool. I mean this has to be a lot better then The Last Stand. Plus, it’s the director of Tsotsi, so it can’t be horrible. I’m looking forward to it.

  • Snarf

I’m actually really looking forward to this.

marvel is definitly trying to pull a page out of the dark knight with the whole darker side of the superhero thing. execpt, (judging only by the traile) the dark knight gets it right. this trailer also reminds me of elecktra(also a darker portrayl of a superhero). so im thinking big flop.

Well, normally the last thing I would do is watch movies with superheroes. I prefer films based on English literature etc. But x-men is special, and Wolverine is very special, as he simply is the archetypal tragic hero, destined to suffer and see every woman he ever loves die… – so romantic. I am definitely going to watch this. Would even if the trailer looked like a failure, which it doesn´t. I am really looking forward to this.

This looks better than expected, but then again, it’s just 2 minutes of cut together scenes, so I’m not entirely sold yet. Fox has a real talent for making a big mess of comic book movies.

  • Cara

I’ve been hearing pre-backlashers saying this trailer is terrible, but this is the first time I’ve seen it, and I have to disagree. It’s a little overblown and a little goofy, but overall, this looks like exactly what I want. They’re not trying to make “The Dark Knight”–the X-Men franchise is about pure comic-book fun, and I’ll lay odds this one is going to deliver.
And Taylor Kitsch is making my life a thousand times better every time frame he’s in.

  • Brian

I’m excited for it. I have cautious optimism.

  • Shannon S.

I know a trailer can be misleading…but that looks pretty good. I’ll be there.

  • PistolHot

THE MOVIE LOOKS KICK A$$!!!! WOLVERINE IS GOD!!!!!!!! I WANT MORE WOLVERINE AND LESS OF THOSE OTHER CHARACTERS!

  • escargot

Okay I’ll admit I’m not up on my Wolverine lore, but it looks like he has the claws as a kid. I thought he didn’t get the claws until later, he just had the ability to heal.

  • Erik Higa

How stupid. I saw a link to watch the trailer on youtube and I clicked on it but the link doesn’t work. I guess Fox has a problem with free advertising or something. It’s a movie tralier. You guys really need to get it together soon.

Aside from the fact that Liev and Hugh had the same facial hair (see the last shot of the trailer) it looks pretty good! It’s a bit tongue in cheek I think, and as Cara said they’re not trying to make the Dark Knight…people oughta just relax and wait and see.

  • Clay Atlas

Cannot wait. Should be better than his Oscar-hosting gig.

well this trailer rocks, i dont think i can top the dark knight (though I wish it can!) but i’m really site abt the movie…wolverine is awesome! his caracter is deep at the same time tough and badass…I cant wait to see deadpool too! Ryan reynolds and deadpool are two favourites!!!!

  • Natasha

Holy smokes am I excited for this movie!!
    Gambit is my hero.

Let’s set the record straight for all the Dark Knight junkies outher (of which I am one). Remember that not every comic-book movie can share the same tone as TDK, otherwise each movie would resemble TDK and not itself. Imagine a new Spiderman movie getting that dark?! It just wouldn’t work. While Wolverine is a darker character in essence, it’s still pure comic book fun. You can’t put realism into a guy with steel claws. Marvel isn’t trying to make their own Dark Knight. They’re trying to make a Wolverine movie. From the trailer, so far it looks as if they’ve succeeded.

  • Alex

….well, I know where I’ll be on April 30th at midnight.
    @ escargot:
Wolverine originally had claws of bone. They were coated in adamantium to make him even more bad ass.

  • Anonymous

    meh.

  • Tania

I don’t know anything about X-Men but i will watch this movie because of sexy Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights).

  • J.

Looks terrific. My only gripe is that Hugh Jackman (awesome as he is) looks markedly older than he did in X1 and X2. But so far there’s no one who could take his place, nor should there be anytime soon.

  • Ruby

Okay, loved the first 2 X-Men movies, hated 3 which seems to be a common theme. So, when I heard about Origins, I was not interested. But this may have sold me. Looks kinda bad ass, Hugh looks delicious, and am excited for a look into other X-men characters, like freakin’ Gambit!

  • Ben

Where was deadpool in this? Was that Emma Frost in the diamond?

  • Bryan

My only real complaint is the Ryan Reynolds/Deadpool is exactly on tiny flash of screen and all you can see is a guy in a red shirt with 2 swords. Hopefully they did it right because he was born to play Deadpool, spinoff! Otherwise, I’m stoked. goodmoviebadmovie.blogspot.com
