'My Own Worst Enemy' and 'Dirty Sexy Money': What to do?

Enemysexymoney_lEver since word NBC and ABC announced their respective decisions to cancel My Own Worst Enemy and Dirty Sexy Money, episodes of the two doomed dramas have been piling up on my DVR like the stacks of magazines and newspapers, paid bills, and personal correspondence that have turned the main storage area of my apartment into something my husband has lovingly dubbed "the shame-shame closet." And in much the same way I find it hard to recycle old birthday cards or five-year-old copies of Martha Stewart Living, I’m having a tough time trying to decide whether to erase these series from my DVR queue and revoke their "series recording" status, or make like a member of the dance band on the Titanic and keep playing till the final credits roll. Any Enemy or Sexy Money fans out there who are grappling with/have grappled with this painful pop-culture decision? (Yeah, the writing on the latter series went off the rails this season, but I can’t help but feel disloyal having this conversation.) And whether or not I hit delete now, how am I supposed to go on without my weekly Mädchen Amick and Natalie Zea fixes in 2009?

Dont delete “Dirty Sexy Money”. It’s been good.
Havent caught up with “Worst Enemy” also (since 1×03).

It’s a fair question to ask. My wife and i have a handful of episodes od DSM that are sitting in there waiting to be watched. The only reason we are actually going to watch them is that I read on ew.com somewhere that DSM is going to actually tie up the big mystery that kicked off the show last year, we’ll just look at it as one very long miniseries. It seems like shows we like with Blair Underwood get cancelled quickly though (a la NBC’s “LAX”).

  • Wickeddoll

Never watched DSM, but I love MOWE. I think it’s yet another show that didn’t get the proper promotion, or time to find its audience.

  • Robert Taylor

Dirty Sexy Money has gotten so bad this season that it is nigh-unwatchable at this point, and I only watch it for the Natalie Zea quips and the knowledge that not only will it be over soon but there will be some closure.

  • Clay Atlas

Dirty Sexy Money has the better title. Stick with it.

I’m still recording then watching DSM along with “Eli Stone” and “Lipstick Jungle”. I keep watching so the networks will see that there is still an audience and at least air all the remaining shows and not cut us off like they did with “The Nine.”

  • Ryan O’Brien

I’m watching both shows to the bitter end. Series finale with no closure of ‘Enemy” tonight.

I can’t understand why DSM is being cancelled. Hello r there no Blair Underwood, Donalad Sutherland fans?Show some love. This truly vexes me. ABC get it together, get rid of Desperate Housewives, thats what you need to get rid of.

  • Susan

Dirty Sexy Money has been getting better and better each week and it’s frustrating that they cancelled it, especially with all the garbage reality junk that on every channel. And I’m still upset about The Nine going away…

  • Maryb

I’m watching DSM, Lipstick Jungle, Eli Stone, and Pushing Daisies until the end. They are good shows (especially the latter two) and I don’t want to deny myself any of them until they are gone. My Own Worst Enemy I gave up on long ago because it is just bad. It deserved to get canceled.

I Love Dirty Sexy Money. It has such well known actors and actresses that I wonder if it is a money saving tactic?

  • CandyMaize

I haven’t watched DSM this season. I have been watching MOWE .. and yes, there were some definite kinks early on, but they were working those out and the later episodes have actually been pretty good.

I gave My Own Worst Enemy a fair shot (even with that hideous title!) — But I stopped watching all the same the second NBC told me I could. Ditty Sexy Mon-ay, on the other hand, has kept up keeping me interested. So, Sleazak, get your Zea while you can…

  • Nicci

We quit watching MOWE and Lipstick Jungle as soon as the announcements were made. But we haven’t been able to let go of Pushing Daisies (so sad that was canceled) or DSM. We are just glad they are going to bring DSM to an end. That is probably the only reason we continued on with it.

I have a rule that if I haven’t watched something that’s been saved on my DVR for more than 2 weeks, then it probably means I’m not really that interested in it and I should delete it.

  • Dan

I’ve been utterly disappointed by DSM this season, more than any other show. But it earned enough credit with me during season 1 to at least stick it out until the end to see who killed Dutch.

  • Ellenkb

I absolutely love DSM and will be very sad when it ends. Also loved ‘The Riches’ with Eddie Izzard which suffered the same fate. I Guess it’s all part of the same syndrome lamented in the second to last ‘Boston Legal’ when Carl Sack went to court to sue the networks for not providing enough sophisticated programming for baby boomers. At least we still have ‘Damages’ to look forward to… I hope!

  • Caraline

I was this|close to deleting DSM from my DVR when I heard that they were going to wrap it up and tell us who killed Dutch. I like the idea of looking at it as a “long mini series”.

  • irene

I also have MOWE on my DVR and I wasn’t sure if I should delete them either. The only one I’ve seen is the pilot. I actually went to delete the other episodes when the announcement was made but couldn’t bring myself to do it. I keep thinking I’ll let them pile up now so I don’t get curious and rent them later.

  • yep

mown was also piling up on my dvr and when i heard it was canceled i was happy to earse all episodes with out watching.

  • tamika

I totally feel you!!! I am so tossed between NEEDING to watch DSM and feeling like why bother. I am really tired of these networks canceling every show I invest my time in.They are so taking us viewers for granted.

  • KIm

Loved DSM and think ABC killed it to make room for the mid-season crap. ABC cancelled 3 hour long shows and replaced them with shows we knew were coming up mid-season. The least they could have done was admit it.

  • Jefe

Im clinging to my last filthy, beautiful little morsels I have left, Im crying now

  • I Got Soul

Its a shame that DSM got cancelled. The show has picked up in the past few weeks so definitely watch it!! You wont be disappointed!

  • Marnie

I feel so much better knowing im not alone in my suffering. Im so upset over DSM.Y god? Y? I love this show its such an amazing escape from my life and I love spending an hour in there dirty sexy world. I will will miss it sooo much.

  • Zet

I yanked MOWE from the DVR about a month ago. I saw the 5.2 numbers and realized it wasn’t going to survive. So rather than invest in yet another doomed serial drama, I deleted the timer and erased the remaining episodes. I know, tough love, but I felt vindicated in not wasting those 3-4 hours of my life after it was canned. And, Michael, get rid of the old Martha Stewarts. It’s hard, but you can look up the information or recipes on the interweb if you need them in the future. And the extra space is nice–for those old copies of EW.

So funny, we’re in the same boat. For some reason, we can’t stop watching Daisies though, and that’s the saddest one of all since they’re not even ending it (though I just heard they’re doing some weird restructure in the editing process which should give some modicum of closure?) Still, I think I don’t delete cause I keep thinking that maybe, just maybe there will be some last minute reprieve and then I can catch up super-quick to be ready!! Then again, we also still have “Jericho’s” last eps for the same reason – hopeless optimists!! (Loved Riches, too, btw, and still have the 2nd season waiting for me on Hulu, but can’t bring myself to finish it – starting to see a pattern, nice to know I’m not alone!!)

  • Mike

Here’s the funny thing. The only things I watch on ABC are “Daisies,” “Eli Stone,” and “DSM.”
My time is now officially freeeeee!

  • JenB

I don’t agree that the writing on DSM has been off the rails. I think it’s been pretty awesome, characters and relationships going every which way.
And the last four episodes alone have been pretty stupendous(ESPECIALLY last week’s!!). Sorry but when a show has me grinning from beginning to end that means I like it.
You don’t know bad writing til you watch half the sitcoms and cop/medical shows on tv. Now THOSE I cannot stomach.
It truly is a shame that two out of my four watched shows this season are getting canceled. Stupid ABC.
Oh and by the way, I know a LOT of people who watch both Daisies and DSM and are miffed they were canceled. Seriously, those nielsen ratings are whack, they aren’t reflecting what’s real.

  • Shara

I have stuck with My Own Worst Enemy and have really liked it all season. I’m disgusted and irritated that it’s cancelled! I’m also disgusted and irritated about Boston Legal and Eli Stone being cancelled! I stuck with/have stuck with those as well. One show that I have guilt about abandoning after watching for YEARS, and I’ve never done that before, is ER. I was watching at the beginning of the season and EVERY episode was SO sad, I couldn’t take it. I never watched DSM or Daisies or Jungle, but for those of you who do, I feel your pain. I get really mad at the networks for all the ‘cancel-happy’ decisions they make! It makes me not want to begin watching new shows because they don’t usually last anyway.
Also, I’m still ticked off that Moonlight was cancelled last year!
