'Melrose Place'reboot getting some 'One Tree Hill'flavor: You like?

Filed under: Television and tagged: ,

Melroseplace_lThis morning’s news that One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn is in talks to write the pilot script for the CW’s proposed Melrose Place reboot sent my mind into a whirlwind of wildly conflicting thoughts. Since I’m not really sure how to feel about the whole thing — except for inherently knowing the show should not bother with new characters, and instead focus on Heather Locklear’s Amanda Woodward (of Melrose 1.0), even though I kind of liked the idea floated last week that Locklear was seeking a role on ABC’s Brothers & Sisters — I thought I’d present all my various and sundry responses into a handy poll. And with the click of your mouse, you can turn me into your sad little puppet. Go!

Never watched the show, couldn’t care less about an updated version…but could we please put a moratorium on the use of “reboot”? It sticks in my craw for some reason, maybe because it’s so often used to dress up and make “cool” revisitatios of old series/characters that should have been left alone in the first place. And yes, I’m a little grouchy today : )

Awww… Andrew Shue. Thanks for the picture.

There’s no option to say you really really do not want this spin off to ever make it to the grid. That’s the one I’d vote for. 90210 is bad enough, do we need another bad spin off.
Where are the new ideas and new shows. All we see now is remakes from british / australian / israeli series and remakes from all american shows that are actual failure : knight rider, 90210.
We need more new and original stuff and less on the remake side, please.

Why do we think this is a good idea at all?

Do we really need yet another series about pretty, spoiled, rich people? (And yes, put me in the grumpy camp with homerox13.)

if you never watched the show, don’t bother commenting the article then dumbass. A reboot would be awesome if they got some old cast members on board. as long as they use the same apartment complex and explode some things ;)

    Got to have Heather!

Mark Schwann really isn’t a great writer. One Tree Hill was a decent guilty pleasure show in the early seasons with Chad Michael Murray actually seemed to try to act. Now it’s just really bad fan fic, and I can’t even watch it anymore. I can’t imagine what he’s going to do with Melrose Place…which definitely doesn’t need to be revamped. You can have a show about the goingson of a apartment complex without it being Melrose Place. Dur!
The CW (or WB) used to crank out some amazing shows: Felicity, The Gilmore Girls, Buffy, Everwood…why they are suddenly incapable with coming up with anything original or remotely watchable (besides Supernatural) is beyond me.

    I agree Rasha.

Obviously the proposed Melrose 2.0 was inspired by the initial ratings success of 90210.
I think, in addition to bringing back some of the old Melrose cast for the spin off, the CW should focus on making Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth regular cast members of 90210. Their guest starring roles were the reason of so much promotion and early ratings success, it cheats the viewers when they only appear in one or two three minute scenes on the show.
I hope now that 90210 is on hiatus, they are considering this.
As for Melrose 2.0, bring back Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton, Kristin Davis and a few others that made the show so appealing before it went downhill.

I’ve been rewatching Melrose Place on DVD, and it remains AMAZING. I’m worried that a modern reboot won’t dare to be as batsh*t crazy as the original. One Tree Hill is mostly awful, but Dan’s storylines often resemble MP in its heyday. I think Mark Schwahn should hand things over to Nip/Tuck’s Ryan Murphy afterwards. He could really do Melrose justice!

I loved Melrose Place back in high school, but I wouldn’t watch a remake. I doubt I could even watch a repeat of the show. I’ve moved on. Things die for a reason. Let Melrose Place rest in peace. That said, if they can make money off a remake, more power to them.

I guess it depends on whom they are trying to market this towards. As an ORIGINAL BH90210 & MP watcher, I have no interest in the 2.0 versions. But since I was part of the target demo for the original series, I doubt that I am part of the target demo for these newer versions. (Huge Supernatural fan btw, and I have to admit that I will watch OTH for kicks)

I honestly am wicked impressed that the CW managed to find a way to make the new Melrose Place suck more than 90210 does, in my opinion. One Tree Hill went down hill so fast it was insane. Now they just need to cast boring and smug actors and make sure nothing happens anybody cares about in any episode and it will be a good match for 90210.
    Sigh.

I was a HUGE Melrose Place fan back in the day. I’m against a reboot. Leave it alone. All the good characters died in the original…so it would suck.
