Golden Globes: Nominations for Best Performance in the Statement You Released Reacting to Your Nomination

Nielpatrickharris_lWe know you’re thrilled. We know you’re honored. What we don’t know is why you feel the need to release a statement that just says that. Here, we recognize those Golden Globe nominees who went the extra mile. Or, in the case of Hugh Laurie, an extra two steps. (See, we’re not asking for much. Just a little personality.)

Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother (pictured)
Nominated for: Best Performance By An Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television

"I’m delighted and honored by this nomination. It takes some of the sting out of being blatantly overlooked by the Obama transition team."

Kevin Connolly, Entourage
Nominated for: Best Performance By an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy

"When my phone started ringing this morning, my instinct was that something was wrong because I’ve never picked up the phone to good news at 5:30 a.m. I could feel the excitement in the voices on the machine so I was unsure what was going on. I called my mom who started to cry, she’s so excited, I can’t wait to bring her as my date. This is an incredible honor, I am thrilled. Thank you so much HFPA, this means the world to me."

Dustin Hoffman, Last Chance Harvey
Nominated for: Best Performance By an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy
"It is so exciting to be nominated, but working with Emma was reward enough. Don’t get me wrong, I still want to win!"

Shirley MacLaine, Coco Chanel
Nominated for: Best Performance By an Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

"I am really thrilled! I guess I should dress up more. Maybe Chanel could do a couture line for seniors?"

Sally Hawkins, Happy-Go-Lucky
Nominated for: Best Performance By An Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy

"Wow, wow, wow — what a surprise, I cannot describe how I feel, soappreciative of it all and so very pleased!! Such an honor to be in thesame category as Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson. They are great, iconicwomen that I’ve watched for years — they have definitely inspired andinfluenced me in my decision to pursue acting. So proud to be in thisfilm and having the chance again to work with Mike Leigh. These pastcouple of days have been a whirlwind but I am feeling quite lucky andblessed at the moment."

Hugh Laurie, House
Nominated for: Best Performance By an Actor in a Television Series – Drama
"I am thrilled. Nine feet tall and thrilled."

And the award goes to… Vote below!

  • Ellen

    NPH FTW!

  • Clay Atlas

Kevin Connolly’s date is going to be his mom? That’s sad.

  • Dan

    I’d like to date Neil.

  • To Clay

It’s not sad to bring your mother, it’s something a lot of actors do for award ceremonies. Ease up mate, it’s not making you one of the cool kids.

  • Dustin Hoffman

It is so exciting to be nominated, just to be recognized in the same category as the awesomely awesome Neil Patrick Harris and the incredible Hugh Laurie is reward enough.

  • Kim

I love Neil Patrick Harris SO MUCH. He really should win.

Oh man, is this really you Dustin, posting on here? (Bangs keyboard) “I’m typing here, I’m typing here!” LMAO!

To keep the weirdos from Entertainment Tonight at bay?
It was close between DH and NPH but I went with NPH.

  • Alissa

Please E-dubs, address the rumors I’ve been reading on Gawker that you’re going online-only. Not that it would be a bad thing, I live for thisblog. But I’ve been biding my time at AARP until I could force George Blooston into getting me a job with your guys. He does have that pull, I assume. Don’t crush a young girl’s dreams.

  • jenn

I don’t get it. NPH’s was the only one that was even marginally funny.

  • Allison

I dont understand Hugh Laurie’s response. Am I a moron?

  • Arsenio Billingham

    A) NPH’s response was the only funny one. He wins.
    B) Gosh, I sure hope “your guys” give Alissa a job, since she rights so good.

  • mscisluv

To Allison – I totally don’t get Hugh Laurie’s statement either. Sad.
