It amazes me that people still try to make old fashioned variety shows when they haven’t worked since Sony & Cher.
What don’t they understand about that?
I think he should continue with the same act– I personally think he is hilarious. Of course, he could tailor it to a prime-time audience so some shake-ups might be in order. Generally, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Would love to see comedy that does not make fun of people, late night hosts quit being funny years ago, will probably give him about 5 minutes, if he is still making fun of others, forget it.
I avoid watching Jay Leno at all possible times. It’s also a shame that decent shows like My Own Worst Enemy got dropped to make room for this.
The whole idea is patently absurd. Who’s going to waste this much space on their DVRs? Besides, nobody watches a whole hour of a talk show anymore. Most people younger than 50 wait until the next day and watch the funny bits on line. Whereas CBS holds viewers for an entire hour with its procedurals. Except for the Thursday night sitcoms, NBC-Universal’s most interesting programming is on USA and Sci-Fi; sure, it looks cheap (except for “Battlestar”), but the characters are more involving. Leno’s going to have to come up with five separate formats to do each day — sketch comedy, clip show, hour-long interviews (with an interviewer besides Leno), game show. sports show. One might work, in which case they’ll cut him back to one night. His first guest is going to have to be Letterman.
This is just crazy!
I agree with everyone saying that Leno hasn’t been funny in years—he hasn’t.
5 nights a week? Really?!? Why? Why leave your talk show to a better, funnier comedian/host and then punch television in the belly?
Maybe it’s just me, but the conceit and arrogance at play here is nauseating, and I will be avoiding this show like the plague it is.
Please, please let this show crash and burn.
Leno is no Carol Burnett.
Jay should stay where he is! I have been watching the Tonight show since I was 14. I saw Jack the night of the water closet incident, in fact I have the story. All good things come to an end — I wouldn’t watch Conan if it was the only show on. Oh well, maybe someone will pick up the Mash reruns during that time slot while we wait for Chris Ferguson to come on!
Is Leno still on??? Why??
Please, please, please keep Headlines.
I want him to go away. He has never been funny.
I do not watch Jay. I don’t think he has measured up to the tonight shows earlier hosts and prefer Letterman if I watch anyone at all.
I’d like to see NBC show some maturity for a change and give him 1-2 years to find his formula. It will evolve. There are a lot to poke fun of out there in the political, social and pop culture world. He’s the best at finding and winking at them. We can’t laugh at ourselves too much. We’ve gotten ourselves into quite a mess over the past 8 years. Leno, et al are the only ones making us look at it honestly.
Jay is funny, but I’d like to see some good old fashioned comedy like the Carol Burnett show, or the Dean Martin Celebrity roasts. I’m tired of seeing show hosts that just smooch up to other celebrities or book sellers. Caustic jokes about politics has worn thin. Setting up things like candid camera was fun. Lets get back to some good wholesome humor that hurts no-one, but makes us all laugh.
Who is Jay Leno?
I think that with all the real people in the U.S.A. who are losing their jobs that we would care about J. Leno who makes millions that we would care about his problems. People are struggling just to make ends meet. I think J. Leno should be thankful he even has a job. My heart pumps piss for him.
