The fine people of Defamer put together a video reel yesterday of what they decided were David Letterman’s shining moments this year, eight highlights that included him telling Lauren Conrad that maybe she’s the problem and discovering the live feed of John McCain sitting with Katie Couric after blowing Dave off. It’s a fun look back at a 12 month period that I think we can all agree was one of the Late Show’s best in a long while, but I don’t think it’s by any means complete. First and foremost, you’d have to include that glorious moment when Dave dropped the words "Gordon Liddy" on McCain. (I cheered at home.) I’d also add his brief makeout session with Will Smith and every single one of his "Great Moments in Presidential Speeches" — this guy’s YouTube channel has a bunch compiled, and I’ve embedded a random sampling below to get you started.

How about Dave last night with Jennifer Connelly and her p#%&y wagon comment? His reaction is classic.
I hope they do a gag with him and Tom Daschle since Mr. Daschle is rocking those glasses now and they look like they were separated at birth.
I’m going to have to think on this. Dave cracks me up each and every night, and not just with Great Moments in Presidential Speeches and the Top 10 list.

There are SO many classic Dave moments, because Dave himself is classic. I love him, his wit and his show. His recent Rolling Stone interview was great, and congrats to them for putting him on the cover!
I especially love the Presidential Speeches… it’s saying something without him having to make it so obvious.
I liked the top 10 list by the Battlestar Galactica cast in character:
Lucy Lawless: “You find out what’s in the hatch and who gets off the island, crap wrong show.”
Number Six and Commander Thigh: “There’s a chance you’ll see me naked.”
Grace Park: “What else are you gonna do? Read a book?”
Plus, his touching tribute to Paul Newman after the actor’s passing with clips of his Late Show appearances.
One recent moment that was great, and kind of sweet, was when Taylor Swift was on. After her song, Dave went over to thank her, and she surprised the usually-standoffish Dave by throwing her arms around him and giving him a big hug! He was a bit startled, but you could tell that he was charmed by the gesture. This is why Dave rocks–he acts like a real human being, instead of “Joke Machine/Plug Master Jay.”
Dave with his Mom on Thanksgiving, guessing the pies she’s baked that day…its always a hoot…I look forward to the topping of the Christmas tree, and the tossing of the football to knock the meatball off that Jay Thomas does every year…good times…
I agree…last night with Jennifer Connelly was great. I love Dave and could care less what NBC does with Jay Leno.
I love Anne Hathaway and enjoyed her interview with him, but I couldnt help but cringe and almost look away when Letterman was just grilling her about her summer break-up. You could totally tell she was VERY umconfortable sitting there I felt like giving her a hug!!
My fave Lettermann moment this year was when TVOTR performed outside on the fireescape.
Having Keith Olbermann waiting in the wings just in case McCain bailed again. Not only was it hilarious on its own, but it pissed McCain off.
After watching the news 12/4/08, and seeing an Iraq news person throwing a pair of size 10’s at President Bush at a news conference on a surprise visit to the country; I have to ask myself how many people here would like to throw their shoes at him here, and what the punishment would be to a US citizen acting out his or her feelings toward our outgoing President ?
