I am going to miss Boston Legal immensely. It is one of few shows on TV that make me burst out laughing, because there are so many things you don’t see coming. Thank you James Spader and William Shatner for the laughter ’til I cried….those paint guns in particular. Let’s all hope they don’t replace BL with another tired reality show.
I loved it when Denny started blasting those paint guns at the Chinese guys! Too much fun! What am I going to do without my Denny, Alan & Jerry! I agree with FloridaTom…a spinoff with Jerry & Katie would be great…with Denny & Alan as neighbors. Alan dealing with the MadCow and Katie dealing with the Asbergers….I’m laughing already!
I will miss Boston Legal for the great actors, the tears, the laughs and the things it made me thnk about. It was one of the few television shows I bothered to watch anymore and then the powers that be decide to end it. Granted, they ended it well. Superb writers. Soon there will be nothing left but reality shows and cooking shows. There are still good books, thank God.
Great recap-I will miss it too. Maybe a network “that cares” will pick up the two of them as a series. James Spader is fantastic and the two of them work beautifully together.
Living near Buffalo, NY, with losing football and hockey teams, the bright spot of my week, was watching BL. Laughing out loud, enjoying actors from my over 50 generation made this series so much fun. I especially enjoyed the Clarence/Clarice character. I’m hoping the reruns start next week!!!
I am confirmed Boston Legal Fan and like many others I will miss this show. Where else can one see a more dysfunctional, electic group of adorable and fascinating folks. I love Denny and Alan . Who know that the darling of indie films James Spader and a lime green dork of aStarfleet Captain (William Shatner )could be so entertaining and go on to develop one of tv’s most satisfying colabrative partnerships. Both its first rate mature cast and star guests e.g. Betty White etc)the gifted writers and genuis direction make this a classic show right up there with the Soprano’s, Mad Men, Life on Mars etc. My favourite scene was when Alan was arguing before the Supreme Court as he talked about his friend’s illness and what he wished he could do to help Denny. I was moved to tears – I really will miss these two -they should win many awards over the next year and hopefully the complete series in its entirity will be on DVD very soon. Boston Legal was the best, most interesting, and only real intelligent weekly drama on the air. The finale was good, but I would have written in a reference to Shatner’s new game show! Bottom line: I am already missing Denny Crane, Alan Shore, and the gang. Guess, I’ll have to settle for reruns (which also could have been referenced in the finale).
Honestly? I was disappointed. The buyout storyline was dull. And although I’m tremendously fond of Alan and Denny and their fearless declarations of love for one another, the entire marriage plotline felt contrived — despite Shatner’s heartfelt and convincing argument in favor of it. At the very least, I wish Kelly had dispensed with the Nimmo Bay nonsense; I know that “outlandish” is his stock in trade, but I would’ve liked to see more feeling and less foolishness. All in all, the episode was missing the poignancy and charm I’ve come to expect from the Denny/Alan relationship. I’ll miss them very much. I’ll also miss the marvelous cast of actors aged 50 and older; Kelly’s potshots last week at the networks over their lack of programming for adults over 35 were spot-on, and were underscored by the appalling ad for “Inner Beauty,” which is set to air in BL’s time slot come January. Adieu, “Boston Legal” — and thanks for five great seasons of loony, yet thought-provoking, television.
It’s always awesome to see a great show go out on top of its game. BL will leave us having earned its best ratings of the year and easily one of the most outstanding episodes of the season. A litany of powerful messages and moral dilemmas, I loved every minute of the finale. BL deserves a full season order or at the very least a spinoff.
I was dissapointed with the finale to be honest. They crammed too much into two hours. I agree with an earlier criticism that the buyout was weak and the marriage was over the top. I like the supreme court scene, especially since they do such a great job at recruiting actors that look like the justices. However, Alan’s argument was terrible and was completely unrealistic (I know…no suprise there but they could have at least tried to incorporate case law). In any event, I am also going to miss the cast and the crazy topics they touch on. Denny is by far my favorite – I also hope a spin off is in the works although I am sure that is unlikely.
I will deeply miss Boston Legal – funny, crazy, warm and witty, while challenging major issues. I loved the cast and their chemistry together. There’s no way I will be watching the reality show it’s being replaced with. I’m one of those over 50′s who would like another quality comedy/drama – just like Boston Legal. Hopefully a friendler, smarter network will come up with one.
Good bye Boston Legal – you’ll never be forgotten!
BL was fun, unpredictable and off the wall. I’m going to miss it.

Boston Legal was one of the best comedy/dramas on television, now or in the past 30 years. The writing and acting were always first rate. The chemistry that developed between Spade and Shatner over the years was just a joy to watch. The politics wasn’t always my cup of tea, but I enjoyed the way the show portrayed the various situations. The paintball battle between Alan and Denny was one of the funniest scenes I’ve witnessed on television. I can’t leave out Candace Bergen either, no one can outclass this beautiful person!
