Sorry the post is late, Siblings fans, but your beloved Slezak abandoned you. That’s right — with one episode left in the year, he up and went on vacation, leaving me to pick up his laundry (and I’m on West Coast time, y’all). But enough about that guy who’s just not that into us. On to the recap!
We knew from the last preview that this was going to be Weepy Walker (as opposed to Wacky Walker) week. First came the red-herring emergency: No one was going to Nora’s Thanksgiving feast! No one, that is, except Sarah, because her evil ex-husband conspired to spirit away her children for quality time with their non-Walker parent.
But, of course, Nora would end up having all her kids with her for Thanksgiving — which was predestined. How do we know? 1) Because the preview prepped us for a Very Special Episode. 2) Because there’s always a dinner (note: duh). And 3) Because there is a Walker Vortex in the universe from which no one is ever allowed to escape. You can decide to move to D.C. with your distinguished politico boyfriend, but the Walker Vortex will suck you back in. You can plan a quiet weekend for two in your boss’ beach house, but the Walkers will descend. And you can whine all you want about how you’ve never been at your parents house for Thanksgiving, but that very fact should be a clue that you never will. The WV does not allow dissent. It will jack up a child’s liver if it has to, but your butt will be parked at Nora’s table, even if said table is in the friggin’ ER.
Ooh, which reminds me to get to the real emergency: Baby Elizabethis ill! She needs a tiny piece of someone’s liver! Oh noes! Here is theproblem with this storyline: It leads to Hell. No one is surprised bythe fact that Kevin’s little swimmers out-distanced Justin’s to touchthe wall and begat the baby. That was obvious from jump. What’sshocking is that based on the previews of the January episodes, Brothers & Sistersis poised to exploit Scotty’s-Lesser-Half’s technical daddyhood andstart some drama over the Kid Kevin’s Never Paid Any Attention to UntilNow.
Ugh. Don’t. Please, B&S, just…don’t. While it’s doubtfulthis will metastasize into a full-blown custody-battle arc, the veryidea that they’d indulge such silliness is stomach-churning. We justdon’t need a string of Weepy Walker episodes staring us down in the newyear when we’re already fretting about Ryan, the Walker Landing coup(a.k.a. Holly, Holly oxen free!), and whether Kitty will finally getthe adorable black kid she desperately wants. We need at least a coupleof Wacky Walkers before we dig into all that.
I’m glad it’ll be Slezak wading through that maudlin madness. I just like barking at the tee vee machine.
What do you think, PopWatchers? Is B&S headed in the right direction? Is Scotty the best husband, like, ever? Is Tommy ever not an aggressive jerk? And should we warn this Ryan kid about the Walker Vortex? Talk to me.

I saw the preview and noticed that it looked like Kevin was startled awake three times. I haven half a thought that it’s all a dream when we come back in January. Like Kevin dreaming would it could have been.
“It will jack up a child’s liver if it has to, but your butt will be parked at Nora’s table, even if said table is in the friggin’ ER.”
Truer words. So funny and yet what is great/frustrating about the show.
What a snide, condescending “review” this was. A sheer waste of time to read. Slezak should’ve just gone without a replacement.
I hope, oh I so hope, that the plotline about Kevin wanting custody or rights, etc to Elizabeth is a dream. Please don’t go there B&S!
I thought this was a great episode. Although I said “who?” when Elizabeth was mentioned – forgot the kid even had a name. As much as I hate Tommy, the reconciliation with Kevin at the end was very sweet. I’m interested in seeing this storyline develop, however, there’s the whole Ryan Walker mystery that has yet to be solved….thats what I wanna see first before the whole “Kevin’s now a daddy” story take place.
Kind of cold-hearted, but I’m hoping Tommy and Kevin really get into over the paternity so that Tommy is permanently banished from the Walker Vortex. Nothing against Balthazar Getty (okay, maybe a little bit, given all his cavorting with the unmentionable SM as of lately) but I just loathe the character of Tommy; he’s more or less an afterthought. Tommy is just gosh-darn annoying, acting all high and mighty taking over Ojai and then regretting it but then going on a power rush and firing all his family…yuck-ola.
Yeah I can’t wait for Slezak’s return to Bros & Sisters recaps either. This review was a mumble jumble mess.
I hate Tommy. I wish his liver had failed and no one cared enough to give their own.
For those worried about the preview, the next episode is called “A Father Dreams.” You can put two and two together pretty easily.
Fantastic episode last night. Hilarous at the start, and very moving stuff for the remainder. I especially liked the Kevin/Scotty scenes, Nora was a highlight, and the Kitty/Tommy pep talk and Kevin/Tommy reconciliation were also very good scenes.
I think the previews are making the paternity drama to be bigger than what will actually transpire. It’s natural to expect Kevin to have some difficulty adjusting to the knowledge he is Lizzie’s father (before, he could plausibly pretend she was Justin’s). And I think it would be unrealistic if there were no repurcussions at all. Real life doesn’t work that way.
But that said, I think it will be resolved pretty quickly. Kevin will honor Tommy’s role as Lizzie’s father, he will simply need to work through the emotions this stirs up in him. Likewise, Tommy will have to control his insecurities.
This show is so “Nights of Our Lives”. I thoroughly enjoyed the snarky review appropriate for a nighttime sudser. I liked it (dare I say) more than Slezak’s reviews!
I was looking for Slezak’s comment on Julia and Scotty being in the same room at one time and they even hugged in the background!
Also, loved Julia on the phone…”Listen up, Walkers!”
I used to like this show, but lately-all of the togetherness and fighting is getting to be a bit much.
This is the recap we get for one of the best episodes B&S has ever done? Really?
You could write an entire recap on the brilliantly hilarious opening alone. How good was Kevin/Kitty’s high five, the phone conversations, then Kitty pulling the short straw, then them all running back into the kitchen trying to look busy as Nora came in, and Kitty saying “I bruise easily” as Sarah whipped potatoes at them. Great stuff.
Field and Flockhart were fantastic, Getty gave his best performance ever, and the writers even gave Wettig, VanCamp, Annable nice moments.
Did anyone notice in the preview Kevin making out with a blonde woman that I believe was Julia?!?! It must be a dream but I still couldn’t believe it (also kind of hot)
Also, I had to pause the show at one point because I was laughing so hard. After Tommy came out to announce that Elizabeth needed the operation and Kevin was it, Justin said, “Congratulations” awkwardly and Tommy responded, “He can pass out cigars later….” Not a moment for jokes but really funny.
awesome episode! crappy review!
This wasn’t much of a review. Slezak, come back! For all the people who don’t like the show: why watch it? Are you stupid and can’t walk away from the TV, or do you move from the TV to the computer?
I’m really beginning to dislike Rebecca. She just doesn’t know when to shut up. The scene where she and Justin were walking outside of the hospital and Rebecca was on her high horse again was painful to watch. Rebecca just needs to learn to shut up…there’s a time and a place for everything and shock of all shock some things aren’t even your business.
I thought this was the best show so far this season and that says A LOT because they HAVE ALL BEEN FANTASTIC!!!!! Obviously my favorite show
I’m really not too happy with how the series is going. Do they really need to drag the story to that direction?
A gay man thinking he should probably be with the biological mother because he’s the biological father. Also this will ruin a perfectly good brother relationship after it was mended well at the end of yesterday’s episode.
Let’s hope the episode is played out well.
>>A gay man thinking he should probably be with the biological mother because he’s the biological father.>>
I don’t think twe know enough for that brief preview to make that sort of definitive statement.
Honestly, I think it’s Kevin’s subconscious simply dealing with a very weird situation — he’s the biological father of his brother and sister-in-law’s daughter. Technically, he and Julia created a child.
Add this to an awakening of Kevin’s fatherhood instinct and perhaps a desire to start a family with his husband (Scotty), and it becomes pretty clear why it would be a confusing experience for Kevin.
If its even a dream sequence the Kevin/Woman thing, I’m done. I don’t care how much I love Scotty and Justin, I’m out. I’d hate to think that’s the route this show is heading. There are far more interesting routes to take than that. Ugh
Nice episode but I really want them to get back to kicking Holly to the curb.

The Kevin/Julia thing is probably more akin to a nightmare than anything else. (There’s a shot of Kevin waking up looking pretty freaked out.)
I wouldn’t worry about it.
I loved this episode and LOVE this show. I come from a big family and I’m jealous when I see them all together even when they fight. The fact that they are actually IN each other’s lives is totally cool. I think that Kevin is just going to be psychologically affected by actually being the biological father but I don’t think he would ever try to take the kid from his brother. It’s a little bit different when you know for SURE that you are the father BUT I think that Scottie would make a better mother than Julia.
I think the new year is going to concentrate on bringing Holly down because she has totally taken over that business – the baby thing will pass. Hey – at least they don’t have any ghosts like GA
I’m about done with this show…every episode is exactly the same. These great actors are wasted in 30 minutes of a 43 minute script. They each get shining moments where you realize the potential that has been lost amid two many characters and too much redundancy. And now, Kevin is going to get a chance to make out with Julia? Dream or not, it’s another example of this show losing its way. Bring back Eli Stone and Pushing Daisies!
