Ok, it does not matter what the people who do not like Taylor say. She sold over 500,000 albums in her Fearless debut week. The album has been number 1 for a total of 6 weeks…not just on the country charts. People like her. End of story. I have both of her albums and I love them. She has set many records in the country genre. To say that she’s undeserving of everything that has happened for her in the last few years is very unfair. She has spent YEARS writing songs and she can play the guitar like nobody’s business! Watch the stripped performances, where its just her and the guitar, how many pop artists play and write and sing their own songs. I ignore the people who say rude things about her. She’s successful because people like her music. If you don’t then thats fine. But she made her OWN way in this business. She signed onto a record label that wasnt very popular compared to Hollywood Records, etc. she didnt have a tv show, or a popular dad, she worked her butt off. The end.

taylor swift is extremely talented. so maybe she’s not the best live, which does count for a lot, but if you heard her studio work (which is UNEDITED), you’d realize that she is a good singer. and so what if she’s better at songwriting than songsinging? she puts everything she has into each song, and if that’s not enough for you maybe you should try it yourself. but no, you’d rather sit and complain about everyone else than actually get up and realize that it’s not as easy as you think.
I totally agree. The grammys are a joke. I don’t undersatnd how allison crauss gets so much when she’s not even a good singer. Oh and taylor swift is AMAZING. Even for those who don’t like country music you have to have respect for someone who started at 16 with hit records and she is just as great live as she is on her cds. She is not a bad singer. Those would be people like miley cyrus (who ruined taylor’s song tonight)
The boredom of the Grammys is just a side effect of the consequences of one entity (Clear Channel Radio) controlling the vast majority of the radio stations nationally. Top 40 radio and MTV at one time were formats by which artists could over time cultivate and grow organically with popular culture. Entertainers, radio and MTV shaped popular culture. That’s not the case anymore – playlists that might feature at best a couple dozen white artist singles in the entire given year sandwiched between ignornant cliche booty raps, baby-mama-drama, bling-bling by the newest faceless r&b entertainer ‘artist’ makes for tiresomely dull entertainment. The record industry’s miserable lull owes far more to Clear Channel’s favoring of boring payola artist roster – the only music allowed mainstream radio exposure – than it does to downloading free music.
First off, I agree with the writer. Taylor Swift may be a gifted songwriter, but she is not cut out to sing. She does not have good technique, and her vocal abilities are slim. She has potential, but she needs to work with a vocal coach. I disagree with the person who said Allison Kraus is a bad singer. She’s quite opposite. She can sing in tune and has a good ear for harmony. Her voice is beautiful. She isn’t really an entertainer, though. I do find it unfortunate that Katie Perry and Vampire Weekend were not nominated. That’s how the Grammy’s go. It’s disappointing to see that there is so much talent out there, but because it isn’t commercialized, the artists don’t get recognized for their fine musicianship.
