How come no one’s mentioned Forever by Chris Brown? That’s one of his best records. Very pumping groove and rhythm that I still can’t get out of my head. Also, Closer, by Ne-Yo. They tried to keep both songs apart on the radio because of the similar pumping grooves. They say Bleeding Love was the song of the summer, and while I like the song, it was a hit during most of spring 2008. So I’ll discard it from the summer list.
Um, BenG, you do realize that Fix You came out literally years ago now??? Right?
I can’t stand “Bleeding Love.” I don’t understand why it’s gotten so much airplay. Lewis is a mediocre, bland singer who tries too hard to sound like Xtina, and the song is mediocre as well.
this should be a voxpop bracket game, those are so fun!
All of Coldplay’s songs sound the freaking same to me, its so annoying. I don’t think they deserve the top anything of 2008. I would pick Ne-Yo if anyone…but nothing jumped out at me this year.
Good God, music is in a sorry state these days.
I’m surprised that no one mentioned ‘Love Song’ by Sara Bereilles. That song was played in between ‘Bleeding Love’ and ‘Low’ all summer long…
the song of my summer was defiantly Chris Brown’s Forever (followed closely by having to demonstrate the Cupid Shuffle at my friends family re-union and than AGAIN at his sisters wedding…) It was such a fun, catchy tune for all the road trip shennanigans that make up a summer-of-fun…
Album of the year? Sure it came out just a few weeks ago but Pink’s Funhouse has not been removed from the number one slot of my car stereo, it has been omnipresent on my iPod playlists, and runs in the background as I write this. Beautiful, raw, soulful, and many times kick-ass, Pink’s latest is one of the greatest.
Are there any more rock bands in the world? All that stuff is crap.
Added note – Sara Barielles deserves a shout out for her single, Love Song, as well as her beautifully crafted debut album Little Voice. While 2008 saw breakout hits from the likes of Leona Lewis, Katy Perry and Duffy, Sara’s first album shows more than slick studio tricks and game show winning advertisement bucks – its the birth of a long, true singer-songwriter’s career.
