Do not rent or buy 'Fred Claus'

Fredbor_lFred Claus hits DVD Nov. 25, and in case you find yourself in the holiday spirit, thinking it’s gotta be funny if it stars Vince Vaughn, Paul Giamatti, and Elizabeth Banks, I felt the moral obligation to remind you that IT’S NOT.

Is there a holiday film that you strongly believe deserves the treatment Rudolph received (pre-fog)? Issue your own turkey alert below.

    Two words. Bad Santa.

  • CJ

See: “HOW JIM CAREY – I mean the Grinch – RUINED – I mean – STOLE CHRISTMAS”. Or better yet, don’t see it.

  • Ceballos

I wasn’t planning on renting or buying (or devoting anytime whatsoever) to watching “Fred Claus”…but thanks for the heads up any way.
CCross: Gotta disagree with you about “Bad Santa.” I didn’t think it was all that great at first, but I actually find it a little funnier every time I watch it.
My particularly bad X-Mas movie is “Surviving Christmas.” What an embarrassing waste.

  • Emily

I’m with Ceballos. Had big doubts about Bad Santa but actually thought it was hillarious!

“Home for the Holiday” the movie Jodie Foster directed sucks big time. Holly Hunter was worse than she normally is and I think she is the biggest overactor ever!! Enough of the H.H. rent but the movie is just an unpleasant experience.

I can only assume the lack of mentioning “Jingle All The Way” means everyone has forgotten about this travesty of holiday movies. Thank goodness.

The Jim Carey mess of the Grinch. Just thinking about it makes me ill. And any of the cheese movies made for tv by Lifetime or Fox Family Channel. *gags*

Please save your self from the horror that is Deck the Halls, and here I thought Matthew Broderick could do no wrong.

    There are so many!
    1. It’s already been mentioned, but it’s so bad that it must be said again: Jim Carey’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas
    2. The Santa Clause 2 and 3- I loved the original one, but these sequels were dismal.
    3. Was Jim Carey in any other Christmas movies? Because if he was, then add all of those to the list.
    4. Everything they’re showing on the 25 days of Christmas on ABC Family

  • Brian

Reindeer Games starring Ben Affleck. My idea of Christmas Hell.

  • Em

Oh no Rich, I remember “Jingle all the Way” in all its epic glory (er…crappiness). It’s burned into my brain because I’ve seen it three or four times- I really couldn’t tell you why.

  • MovieFan

I agree with Jingle All the Way. And let me toss out something a little controversial here. I know that it’s a huge tradition for a lot of people. But I. Can’t. Stand. A Christmas Story. I just want to shoot the kid with the dang BB gun. Right in the eye!

    Hey Ernest! It’s Christmas!

    BOOOOOOO! to MovieFan

  • Leslie

And BOOOOOOO! sagogo. I don’t think “Home for the Holidays” is the greatest movie ever made, but it’s a staple Thanksgiving movie for me. I would’ve liked it to be funnier, but it wasn’t about that; it was about being a family whether or want to or not. “Well, we don’t have to like each other, Jo. We’re family.” Very GenXer, but relevant nonetheless.
