Likes: Vampire Baseball (totally awesome), Charlie (every scene he was in was great), THE kiss (great portrayal, got the most oohs and ahhs in the theatre) and I agree, the house was awesome, and the cullens making Bella dinner was fun!
Dislikes: Not enough time to develop B&E’s relationship, special effects (Edward carrying Bella up the mountain etc) was a bit poor, but not horrible seeing the budget they had.
Overall: Liked it alot (which is good, as i’m seeing it again with work folks on Monday)

I’ve never read any of Stephanie Meyer’s books, so maybe thats why I LOVED this movie. I could sense that it was rushed (esp. since I’m used to the Harry Potter films), but I just really got wrapped up the in the attraction and chemistry between the two main characters. Pattinson is GREAT EYE CANDY so that helped. I also enjoyed all of the supporting characters; they all seemed funny, happy & weird all at once. They added a balance to the darkness of the movie. I don’t think it was great enough for me to read a 500 pg book, but i guess ill see.

I have to completely agree about the Beer comment. I live in Central Washington and it made me so happy to keep seeing Rainer Beer because they paid attention to the small details of Washington State

  • OMG OMG OMG!!!!!

OMG this movie was so bad it was terrible the actors were sooo bad but, I LOVE TWILIGHT so I LOVE THE MOVIE IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!1!1

I had the opposite reaction on seeing it the second time. I went opening night and it seemed everyone was disappointed with the lack of attention to detail. So, after grasping that the movie wasn’t much like the book in a lot of ways, I saw it again with an open mind and felt it was more enjoyable. The things that truly bothered me both times were the high school boys (yes, high school boys can be immature but the “generic” ones were never THAT immature”), the lack of Emmett and his enjoyable personality from the book, Jasper just looking downright freaky and Kristen’s overall stuttering. Enjoyable was the humor (thank you Billy Burke especially), the family together (even though there wasn’t enough…LOVE seeing the Cullen family interact) and that things seemed to pick up in every way when the Port Angeles incident kicked in. It will never be as wonderful as the Twilight fans would like but it was pretty good with a small budget and a cast of relative unknowns. I bet the next 3 rock!

Saw it twice. The first time, I recruited 13 friends to come with me, and I was so nervous it was going to be pure cheese and that they would all hate me, so I think that interfered with my overall enjoyment. The second time was great. Anyway, I HATED the flashbacks. I still giggle at the Jacob’s flashback, where the Cullens are slowly standing up. It’s so freakin’ silly. And I was worried that the scene of Carlisle changing Edward was going to be our “scene of sensuality.” J/K All of Laurent’s lines were awful!! The music in the bio lab when Edward first smells Bella ruined it. The extreme close-ups could have been ditched for more dialogue– K&R could handle that, and it would have developed the relationship. I didn’t like the directing, but the story was still Twilight, and I fell in love with that story in the book. LOVED: Robert, Baseball scene (loved the music), the kiss in Bella’s room, Jasper’s Edward Scissorhands impression, & when Bella leads Edward to the forest.

I’ve seen it twice now, once at the midnight screening, in a college town, with a bunch of overexcited girls (and me, an overexcited 31 year old, with overexcited adult friends) and we giggled, squeed and forgot to breathe for most of it it. Then i saw it again last night, a much quieter screening, and loved it just as much. It’s fun, it’s SO faithful to the book, and it’s amazing to finally have it on screen. I loved the Cullens, and Charlie and the so many things that were right. I squeed at seeing Stephenie Meyer on screen, and thought that the actors were great, but the special effects were lacking. But, it was low-budget. I hope that NM will have better effects, for sure.
Now, I did miss the blood typing scene. It was really one of my faves, but was so pleased that they did include Edward sneaking into her room at night. Although i wish he’d commented on her talking in her sleep. There were little things that i missed, and i did think Rob’s too James Deanish —

So, the gist I’m getting from these comments is: the acting is pretty stilted/overdone in places, especially Kristen Stewart’s; Rob Pattinson can’t hold down his accent; the shimmer effect was laughably bad; there wasn’t enough character development to make the romance believable; essential, much-loved characters from the book get short shrift in the movie; the special effects are heinous; the makeup looks like someone behind the counter at Hot Topic was hired to do it; and the plot leaps around unbelievably. YET–”It’s an awesome movie and I really enjoyed myself” and/or “I am seeing it for a third time tomorrow!” I hope in a few months when the fervor has died down that there is a mass epiphany about how silly everyone has been.

I thought the movie as a whole was fantastic. Kristen Stewart carried the whole movie and was fantastic and contrary to the article, the sputtering scene in the hosptial was great in my opinion.
I wished the Cullens were in it more, especially Alice and Rosalie, and what was up with Jasper!! He looked like a psychopath. The sun glittering thing is totally weird and i wished the meadow scene was actually in the meadow.
Other than that, GREAT MOVIE! can’t wait for New Moon!

And totally overacted the scene in biology. But the baseball scene was so fun. The cooking scene was hysterical — reminded me a little of Breaking Dawn and Edward cooking for Bella all the time. I wish there had been more lines for the Cullens, but there was so much funny stuff, with Emmett and the human kids.
I hated that Jacob didn’t tell Bella about the “cold ones,” and that we didnt’ get more Carlisle backstory. That we didn’t get more of the lullaby, and Edward saying that it was just for her. But it’s an adaptation, and it was amazing, and i love it.
Some stuff is cheesy, but umm, so is the book.

Thank you for mentioning Kristen’s stutter-y delivery in the hospital scene. That was the worst thing about the movie for me. Yep, even worse than the initial sparkle (although the shot of them laying in the meadow totally redeemed it-he looked, well, dazzling) and the lack of buildup to their romance.
My two favorite scenes were the baseball scene and meeting the Cullens. The quick exchange between Rosalie and Emmett was classic!
    Rosalie: Is she even Italian?
Emmett: Her name is Bella… (duh)
I seriously guffawed at that one.
I agree with the assessment of Charlie and Jessica, but I didn’t think Welch was a standout character. Funny? Yes. Scene-stealing? Not so much.
I love Rob Pattinson, but I walked away with a Jasper crush-his handling of that bat was super hot:) Not to mention an Alice crush-Ashley Greene was great!
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie (even with all the changes). I plan on seeing it twice more and am excited to see it again!

Yes, forgot about the makeup. It was Carlisle’s that made me drop my jaw, when he came to examine Bella after the Tyler-car-crash episode. Jaw dropped, gasped, giggled inappropriately for a good 20 seconds… couldn’t believe they would a) shoot it like that and b) keep it in when they saw how bad it looked. It seemed to be better later– but how incongruous THAT was… and the sparkle part, my God, why couldn’t we have just left that out entirely? It’s stupid in the book and didn’t translate well in the movie. He’s a man (albeit a dead one), for God’s sake– men should never sparkle, vampire or not!! But I can overlook all of that because I love the story. The movie was sheer guilty-pleasure-entertainment– and I do intend to see it a few more times in the theatre.

Rob is EDWARD! Kristen is a Beautiful Bella! Loved IT! Thank You Summit! Looking forward to New Moon!

I agree, the effects where bad, so was the makeup.. Jasper hair.. WTF?? and Rosalie isnt a gorgeous as the Books describe’s her…
they cut off the Dazzle and rubor on cheek of bella part… that was kind of a big thing..
I liked Charly a lot and I think that the rest of the Cullens (with out Rosalie) where ok..

  • mom

I didn’t read any of the books. I only went to the movie to take my daughter. I didn’t even think I would enjoy it, but I LOVE IT! I’m going to read the books if they hold my interest. I loved Edward and Bella’s parts. I think that is what made the movie for me. I think they made me feel part of the movie. I also enjoyed that it was funny. Thank you so much and I hope my daughter insisted on going to New Moon :-)
