'Ugly Betty' Bites: Lots more Marc (of course)

Last night’s Betty was great for lots of reasons, but let’s talk about just two of them. First, Marc (Michael Urie) and Betty (America Fererra) really patched things up and are now headed to the Y.E.T.I. (Young Editors Training Iniative) together. The end of the episode was so touching between them, especially when they said they’re "gonna be huge." Sweet, right?

Second, of course, there were a boatload of great sound bites. So I’ve rounded them all up here for your enjoyment. Check out the video of the four best quips of the night, and then vote in the poll below. Want even more? Of course you do. A roundup of all the night’s best bites are after the jump. Leave some love in the comments section. Tell me which is your favorite — or which ones I missed!

“Marc isn’t in right now, but if you leave your name and number he’llnever speak to you again, you odious sea cow, Betty. Beep.” —Marc, after Betty beat him into the Y.E.T.I. program

“You gotta take every advantage you got in this life. When I have to goto the butcher shop, I put on my tightest tank top and thank you to the Pointer Sisters right here, Abunjio the meat man puts me in the frontof the line. Is that fair? So what? Who cares?” —Hilda (Ana Ortiz),telling Betty that she shouldn’t feel bad about getting into theY.E.T.I. program

Can we just say it? Best episode of the season, and definitely one of the best of the entire series! So funny and also so sad at times. Loved Justin’s bewilderment at his friend’s wanting to leave Little Shop of Horrors at intermission: “Are you insane? They haven’t even done Suddenly Seymour yet!” Classic.
Nice to see Wilhelmina with a realistic and humanizing crush. Daniel, who can sometimes be boring was pretty adorable here too. I liked it when he read the kindergarteners’ thank-you notes – “Dear Daniel, thanks for coming to our class today, you are old.”
The scene where Marc accused Betty of getting into the YETI program because she was Latina was a really surprising twist. Superbly acted, and just really well written. Eps like this are why I love this show. This one was pretty darn special.

I love the bites. But I want a betty Tv watch even more!

I had been a little tired of Betty this season, but this episode reminded me why it’s still in my TIVO. It was fabulous! I just wish Mark would patch things up with Cliff. Cliff brought out nice Mark.

As much as I love bitchy, snarky Marc, I love honest, sweet Marc even more. The phone call between Marc and Betty at the end of the episode was my favorite moment of the show. Having everyone remain as snooty and self-absorbed as they were at the beginning of the series would have been tiresome, so I’m glad that everyone is softening up, without completely losing their edges.

Gonna be huge- was THE line of the night.

I like the Willy and Conner storyline. Conner is like Betty-lite. He sticks to his guns and shows alot of integrity. Conner is really getting under Willy’s skin which is always fun to watch.

Betty giving up her dream so easily (because she’s a good girl) was very boring – it would have been nice to see some conflict within her. Also, seeing Betty do a less than thorough presentation with her big break – UGH. And didn’t Marc cheat – by using his connections etc? And Betty has to feel guilty? UGH

This was a great episode (though I thought the way they handled the race stuff was disingenuous and obnoxious). Marc looked fantastic the entire episode and the end scene where Daniel finally helped BETTY? Priceless! The Marc Betty squee fest was even better. Look forward to seeing how YETI plays out. And may I say… FINALLY we get some progress on Betty’s career! It took long enough!

  • Dana

Love to see them humanizing Marc and Amanda and the two of them really starting to genuinely like Betty. The last scene with Betty and Marc on the phone was the best scene of the night :) I hope that Marc and Cliff patch things up and get engaged how fun would it be to see them plan a wedding?
So sad what Justin’s friend did made m eteary eyed for him. I hope they somehow find a way to have Marc get involoved in Justin’s life and maybe help him in some way I am sure Marc experinced similar conflict in his teens as Justin is going through now.

I get that this show has some of the best zingers in the business.
However, last night’s episode was touching and sad (Justin and Hilda) and boiling down a discussion of said episode to just the funniest sound bites is a little insulting to the fantastic work the actors did last night (especially Michael Urie) and more than a little insulting. You’re basically ignoring a big part of this show…it’s heart.

  • Ceballos

By the way, Tanner, I’m not mad at you. I read your TV Watches for this show last year and I know you appreciate ALL the stuff about this show I mentioned in my previous post.
My last comment was aimed at whoever thought this half-assed “Betty Bites” thing was a good idea. (Unless, of course, “Betty Bites” is Tanner’s idea… then I take it back.)

  • Elle

This was one of those episodes that made me really wish Michael Urie did more films, or something – he’s a really great actor, and I’d hate to see him disappear into “former tv clown” obscurity once this show is through.

  • anna

I loved this episode so much…but not for its humor…more for it’s heart! The justin story line was soooooooooo good.
This episode reminded me of why I love Ugly Betty.

  • Brittany

I loved everything about this episode *except* Marc’s obnoxious comment and the sloppy follow-through. For the many people of color who are accused of getting things just because of their race (and not because of their talent or the fact they deserve to be there), it was disheartening to see Betty basically agree and give the tickets to someone who *didn’t* deserve it. Yes, I still love them, yes I will still watch, but I wish they hadn’t gone there if they weren’t going to use it as a teaching-moment for the viewing public.
