'Bones': Baked on a Plane

What I want you to do is take off your glasses, shake out your hair, and say, "Mr. Booth, do you know what the penalty is for an overdue book?"

All together now…

Why?

It was another instant classic episode of Bones last night, a forensic adventure in the sky as Brennan and Booth had to MacGyver (MacGruber?) their way through a murder investigation involving a dead mistress cooked like roast pork in the oven of a flight to China, and they had to solve the case before the plane touched down. All Brennan really wanted to do was go look at 40,000-year-old bones in a cave, but the poor thing just can’t stop getting herself into the murder mystery biz—much to the delight of at least one old lady back in coach who helped out by donating the contents of her purse to the cause. (Special thanks to the guy with the denture cream.)

I get a big kick out of concepts like this, where the world of ashow is forced to constrain itself to a very limited space and stillwork. Lots of great lines tonight—coach class as "Gitmo," Hodginsgetting his "meerkat look," every word out of D.A. Caroline’s mouth—and plenty of random stuff to snicker about (like how maybe Sweetsshouldn’t do karaoke, because at Bones karaoke, people tend toget shot). As for the ongoing Angela-Roxy story line…well, I’ll letyou guys fight out the merits of that on your own. Also, it’s hard tosay how I felt about the murderous kid being played for humor when itwas really just kinda sad, and I’m wondering how many more times thecause of death is gonna involve some form of blunt force trauma to thehead (though I’ve been assured that the writers are aware of thisrepetition). Still, any show that uses floating eyeballs as a zippysight gag and madras shorts as a punchline gets a long leash in mybook.

What did you think, PopWatchers? Leave it in the comments.

Why?

Because this is the United States of America.

Every time I think Bones can’t get any better, it does. Last night’s show was a gem – one I wish I’d recorded so I could watch it one more time (OK, maybe two or three).
Angela and Roxy’s sort of meh for me right now. Am willing to see where it goes, though.

Mm glad to see that my Bones are back on track this season after a rocky start. I wish this show would get a recap all its own. They have the best lines and best character moments on TV.

“Bones” last night was great. Have been enjoying it all season, but that was a standout. With Roxy, I think Angela is using her to pretend like she’s over the breakup with Hodgins, though maybe Angela doesn’t mean to. The fallout will be huge, I bet. I loved the mystery lady.

I agree, it was a great episode. The best part was after Booth tells Brennan to “…take off your glasses, shake out your hair…” he gets a call and walks out and then she does it! Trying to figure out why! So cute.

I do love this show, and this episode was a classic. I will say, though, that I am not feeling the Angela/Roxy thing. Call me a purist but they need to get Zack back and give Angela and Hodgins a happily ever after.

great episode. one of the better ones recently!

the librarian comment was classic. I laughed until it hurt.
I’m ready for the Angela/Roxy thing to be over for 2 reasons: 1 – too many shows have new gay/bisexual couples this season so the storyline is no longer interesting. 2 – Angela and Hodgins belong together. end of story.

Last night’s episode was fantastic! Especially when Cam told Sweets he was only called back because he was on speed dial. The chemistry between Booth and Bones was really crackling! Hopefully, this episode will be the benchmark for the rest of the season!

I loved last night’s episode! Just the perfect mix of humour and serious and no melodrama. I’m not too sure about Roxy and Angela though, I don’t really feel any chemistry at all with those two, while you could see it all the time with Hodgins. I just wonder how they’re going to play it out, if they stay together or if they break up. And I want to see Zack back in another episode! I love him!

Slowly, slowly this show is putting Bones and Booth together! How many times did Bones ask why people thought they were in a sexual relationship? And the librarian thing? And Booth’s face with his toast “to us” and the sip of champagne!? And next week’s promo with her dad and Booth! It’s gonna happen! Yippie.

While I’m a big fan of Bones in general last night’s episode felt forced to me. First, why was Booth going with Brennan on her dig? He never has before so it felt like the writer’s just didn’t want to shake up the magic of Bones and Booth together. Be creative writers! Second, how tactless was it to make fun of the kid who cooked a woman who was still alive. I mean that’s disturbing on so many levels. I get that the kid has a sick mom and he might have been drunk but still, he’s a punchline?!? Poor form! Third, Angela and Roxy have zero chemistry. And the idea that Angela(a serious commitment-phobe), two seconds after breaking up with Hodgens would propose that Roxy move into her place becasue she’s “ready” is preposterous to her character. I get that the writers are trying to show she’s growing emotionally but in like, four episodes? Again, a tad forced. Sorry, if I seem whiny I just expect better!

How did that knitting needle get on the plane? Half the stuff in my bag is considered a weapon while she carries on this thing? too funny.

I wish they’d drop the bi-sexual plotline. It’s distracting. Bring the little genius back.

  • Chris

I love the episode last night. I loved how they used the passengers to help solve the crime. I wish they just put Angela and Hoggins back together already

  • MilkMama

The episode was fantastic!!!! The librarian comment, the meerkat comment, the last comment, “Why do people always think we’re going to make out?” (Because they all have EYES.)
    It was a great episode!!!
