Beyonce as Wonder Woman?

Categories: Beyoncé, Comic Books, Film

Wonderbeyonce_lSo Beyoncé wants to play Wonder Woman? Surprisingly, my first impulse was not to gnash my teeth over what a terrible idea this is, though I imagine lots of fanboys might have that reaction. But really, B has been training for ages to step into Lynda Carter’s boots and play the DC superheroine on screen. She already has played a scantily-clad action heroine; she’s long been an Amazon princess, and she already has a secret identity. Plus, Warner Bros. has been trying in vain for ages to make a Wonder Woman movie or at least a Justice League movie featuring Wonder Woman; maybe it’ll take a star with Beyoncé’s name recognition to get the movie greenlit.

Lasso of truth time: Who thinks Beyoncé can make this invisible plane fly? And who would rather deflect bullets with their wrists than watch a Wonder Woman movie starring Beyoncé?

If I recall, Evangeline Lilly from Lost expressed interest in playing Wonder Woman a while back–and I think she’d be way better. :)

  • Ronda

Hell to the no. Either cast an unknown or leave it alone. I wish Megan Fox were a little older and had 10 more pounds on her cause she’d be terrific

  • Lynn

Beyonce’s sickens me how she keeps insinuiating herself into everything. “I want to sing at the inauguration!” “I want to play Wonder Woman!” “I want to win an Oscar!” Please, please, please go away and humble yourself.

It’s called hard work and ambition, I never really saw anything wrong with that, and do you mind using the word insinuate in the right context please? Anyways on the topic of Beyonce being Wonder Woman, I am not sure. I have never seen the original movie with Lynda Carter, so I’d have to see that first to assess the situation. However, with that being said she has grown drastically actress, hence her portrayal of Etta James in Cadillac Records.

  • Michelle

She’s kidding, right? Sooo not funny. She can’t act her way out of a paper bag unless she’s singing too.
    My Wonder Woman: Emily Deshanel!

My vote goes to the wonderful actress who plays Robin on How I met your Mother. She’d be awesome!!

When I first read it i didn’t freak out. i’m not into beyonce’s music, but why not. she definatly has the perfect body type. Isn’t it time for a “change”….

Horrible idea. The ideal casting should be a relative unknown who obviously 1) has some acting ability, 2) is physically fit and has a natural athleticism. Beyonce doesn’t qualify on any of those counts.

  • InvisiblePlane

They should have done this 20 years ago with Sigourney Weaver as Wonder Woman. Oh well…

  • Anonymous

    Hell no!!

  • KEVIN

In a word: NO! It makes me angry that this is even up for discussion. Just about all the names that have been attached and/or mentioned before would be better. I personally like Eliza Dushku. Do any men even like Beyonce?

  • cara

I think she should learn to speak first or else Wonder Woman is going to sound ghetto. She can’t act at all and I don’t know why people keep casting her in movies. What she needs to do is practice with a diction coach and get rid of her Houston ghetto accent. I’d prefer that she stick to singing and not speaking.

  • Amy

No, no, no, NO Beyonce as Wonder Woman. She doesn’t fit, her body type is too chunky. I’m a chunky woman and I don’t want to see that. She’s not that great of an actress either. Jessica Biel or Jessica Alba would be much better choices and I don’t like either one of them that well either.

  • bub2121

Oh god no, this has got to be the worst idea ever.

  • BrandonK

I don’t think so. Beyonce’s cool, but I don’t see her as Wonder Woman. Not buff enough, too short, and too American. Wonder Woman is an Amazon, i.e., Greek.

  • whatever

she would be great if you want a flop and kill a franchise before it begins.

  • snarky

I thought there was a petition on the interwebs to get Megan Fox (from Transformers) to play WW. She would be awesome!

  • Joy

Women from different cultures have different body types. Beyonce isn’t chunky. She has curves. I don’t think Wonder Woman should be anorexic or unnaturally skinny like many of the other actresses in Hollywood. A stick figure wouldn’t look good in the outfit. Also, Beyonce does speak English correctly and doesn’t sound “ghetto.” Stereotypes aside, I don’t know if Beyonce is the best person for the role, but she should definitely be in the running.

  • Chris

She’s a beautiful woman, but she doesn’t look right for Wonderwoman. Simple as that.
If they want to go for the comic look, she should be an athletic milky skinned black haired babe. (Eliza Dushku was mentioned. She’s got the look if she could drop the street talk.)
If they want to go for realism concerning her Mediterranean origins they should probably go for an olive skinned honey. Morena Bacarin springs to mind (although I think she might be a bit too sweet, but it’d give her a chance to flex her acting muscles.)
Beyonce doesn’t fit either of those descriptions.

  • A.

Movies like G.I. Jane and Terminator put their actresses through training to get them in fighting condition. I think Jordan Sparks would be a good choice because she has the looks and the height and she is young and would look great in the uniform once she got a little buff and ripped.

  • Craig

This would be one of the worst possible casting choices made in the history of comic book movies. First the woman can’t act, second Diana is Greek not African. I’m all for color blind casting when it works and in this case it doesn’t. Diana should be played by a nobody, someone we have never seen before, that way the character comes first!

  • JFLYNT

I like Beyonce and think she is fine but she will not get the role. My choices would be Nadia Bjorlin ( Chloe Day of Our Lives) or Charisma Carpenter (Buffy/Angel).

  • Anon

I think she would be sexy “time for a change!”

  • A

I think Beyonce has come pretty far with her acting. Why not expand your skillset. I say go for it. Sky’s the limit. Haters can hate all they want but they are the reason Beyonce will still be in the limelight. The more you talk obviously the more she’s gonna be out there.

  • change

I’m one for change. Why not?! She certainly is sexy.
Meagan Fox would be nasty for this role she looks too much like a s*** and she is not curvy enough.

  • gg

    Go Beyonce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • John from St. Louis

As long as everyone else in the movie is 4 foot 10 inches tall Beyonce could be considered an Amazon.

  • nykolus

    umm… no.

  • **star**

Beyonce can totally pull it off. She is fairly light skinned and dark skinned and can be racially ambiguous. Wonder Woman is about an amazon. This can be a mix of many. At times Beyonce even looks part Japanese, part Egyptian, part European. That is why I think she would be good as wonder woman. To present a strong woman/hero character who is not tied down by any race of the color of her skin as she can represent many.

  • Stacey

Give Lauren Graham some time with a trainer and I think she would rock this role.

  • lilly

did Hollywood learn nothing from the disaster that CATWOMAN was? Comic book fans know in their minds who these characters are and when that is messed with you end up with a multi-million dollar Razzie winner.
