MTV Europe declares Rick Astley the Best Act EVER!

Well, duh. And yet despite having beat out fellow nominees U2, Green Day, and the Beatles, the dude didn’t even show up to accept the publicly-voted award last night — or so it seemed. Rumors circulating this morning amongst the "millions and millions" of Astley Internet voters is that MTVE, which assumed this award would go to U2 or the Beatles, felt bamboozled by the public’s choice and wouldn’t let Astley show up to accept. That seems a little far-fetched, but I guess anything’s possible in crazy Europe, a place where a pop star making a casual anal sex joke after being dry-humped by a gossip blogger in plaid pants (check out the clip below, where Perez Hilton and Katy Perry announce Astley the winner) is just another night on the ol’ MTV. What do you think PopWatchers? Did MTVE Rick Roll Rick, or did the guy feel like merely showing up at the Liverpool ceremony would seem presumptuous, seeing that his sole award category pit him against the Fab Freakin’ Four? Or perhaps you literally could not care less?
