Assuming you’re still following the antics of Federal Agent Jack Bauer et al, it’ll take SIX hours of viewing to bone up for 24‘s upcoming seventh season. As an appetizer, there’s the two-hour prequel movie, 24: Redemption, airing Sunday, Nov. 23, ostensibly to bridge the sizable gapbetween 24‘s sixth and seventh seasons. Then, nearly two months later, the four-hour season premiere will finally be served as a two-day feast, on Sunday, Jan. 11 and Monday, Jan. 12 at 8 p.m. This begs two questions:
1. With the ubiquity of DVRs, the ease of renting DVDs and streaming shows online, are we accustomed to consuming bigger blocks of shows in single sittings?
2. Thanks to the writers’ strike, 24 has been off the air for nearly two years. Do we care enough to devote six hours to it, as the writers play catch-up with viewers? I’m not sure I do, but feel free to convince me otherwise below.

I have loved 24 since the beginning and I have high hopes for the new season. I’m way stoked and can’t wait to watch 6 hours of it!
I can’t wait for that 6 hours!!! Yeah 24!!
I don’t get the point of this item.
I’ll give you that the two-hour movie may be a bit indulgent, but I personally don’t mind it at all as a HUGE fan of the show and given that the show was completely missing last season and I’ll take any refresher I can get before the new season starts.
As far as the TWO-DAY, FOUR-HOUR season premiere? This is nothing new because “24″ has kicked off (at least) each of its past two seasons with two-day, four-hour events, so I’m not really seeing what the gripe is here.
I can’t wait. With the show changes I’ve heard of, I’m excited to see what the new season brings.
What you’d rather watch 6 hours of Dancing with the Stars or Super Nanny?!?
I can’t wait for Jack to be back!!
I gave up on season 6. That being said, I’m totally willing to give anything new a chance. We are talking about Jack Bauer, and I love him.
WICKED happy for Jack to be back. I’ve missed him dearly
I’m still looking forward to it so no worries here!!
Go back to watching The Hills or DWTS. The grown-ups are ready for some REAL entertainment. Jack is back and I can not wait!
My pallet has been cleansed and I am ready for my boy Jack. Absence made me fonder. I’m actually contemplating watching the first seven seasons again before No. 8 starts.
I agree with Ceballos. With the exception of the two hour movie in November, this isn’t anything new to 24 fans. Since season 4, 24 has always aired two episodes in two nights back to back for its premiers. I much prefer that uniniterrupted approach compared to the first three seasons. Having long breaks sometimes in between episodes is bothersome.
Granted, the producers didn’t have to do Redemption, but after the disappointing season 6 and the near two year gap in between season 6 and 7, I’m happy they’re willing to go the extra mile to please fans. No other show had to delay an entire season from the strike, so let them have the TV movie this once.
It’s not nearly as much of a stretch to believe that Jack Bauer can save the world than it is to believe Obama can! Bring it on, Jack, I need escapism more than ever now…
Yes, EW. Yes I can devote six hours of my life to watching Jack Bauer. Yes I can. And Yes I Will
this TV season SUCKS. bring on the 24 and Dollhouse.
I don`t get the point. What is the problem? Four hours season premiere it`s the rule last three seasons. Redemption is a little gift because season 6 was terribly bad, and we had so much time without Jack Bauer. Television has not nothing interesting lately. What`s the problem, then?
I can`t wait Redemption and season seven. I missed Jack Bauer so much!
