Everyone has missed the point. United States of America.Period.Take a minute, read it, think of what it means. There has never been a country like ours, warts and all.None of us are the smartest people in the world which is why we should elect leaders who are.We do not know whats fully going on around us until it smacks us in the face.We like to deal with absolutes, good vs. bad, but the world does not work that way.We forgot and we became lazy,we became un-American, all of us.We the people have alot to answer for,we have let our country down and for that we should be ashamed- all of us. Barack Obama has simply asked us to remember, to do more. John Mccain asked the same. Idealogical differences aside, neither of them wanted to destroy America, our apathy can.So knock it off, look inside yourself and know your limitations, your predjudices, and instead of attacking others for their shortcomings, conquer yours.Last night was a good first step. There is nothing wrong with beleiving in hope.

Sorry, but Sherri’s tear fest irritated me. Black people are thinking there are no limitations now…but do they understand this man (half black, half white, raised by his white mother) worked very, very hard to get where he is? He is educated, well-read, extremely hard-working and he EARNED his presidency. To think that now, just because her son is black is reason to believe he can be president is just wrong, and part racist!!!

People have questioned why the McCain supporters boo’d Obama when the Obama supporters cheered for McCain when mentioned. I would guess it’s because McCain is, undoubtedly, and American hero. No one disputes that – he has earned our applause. Obama has not earned that yet from anyone on the Republican team. He has to prove himself, as John McCain has all these years, to earn applause from the “other” side…and he has yet to reach out to them, and probably never will.

Elisabeth needed to stand up for herself today. To me she seemed relieved that all of this is over. She fought hard against the whole group. She does not need to eat crow.

Joy Behar or Whoopi Goldberg or Rosie O’Donnell would NEVER be as gracious and classy as Elizabeth was today if Obama had lost. NEVER would Joy stand behind a Republican president because Democrats simply do not know how to lose gracefully.

  • D LARK

I THINK WHAT ELISABETH TOLD HER DAUGHTER WAS NOT THE TRUTH. IN A RACE THERE IS ALWAYS A WINNER AND A LOOSER NEVER TO WINNERS THIS WAS NOT A TIE. OBAMA IS THE WINNER.

Gretchen I find your post a little ridiculous. Obama has done nothing to earn applause from Republicans? How about running a great campaign and winning the presidency?! I am so sick of people saying that McCain is a better person/American because he was in the military. Everyone has different challenges and accomplishments in their life, his are not the only ones.

  • You go girl!

I don’t care what all you haters say, I actually admire Elisabeth for standing up all this time when it’s been 1 against 4. How many of you could do that day in and day out?

  • JasonHomey

Elisabeth showed class on this clip and obviously Joy did not. You should never root against your president. I hated Bush and hated him even more that I had to vote for a worthless John Kerry in the election in 2004, but once he won, I was hoping he would turn things around and be a better president. Folks, the country will be fine whoever won the race. Obama isn’t turning the white house in to a muslim capital. McCain wasn’t going to bomb Iran the first day in office. Both are respectable and qualified candidates and for the first since I have voted (1992), I would have been happy with whoever won. This country needs to come together now more than ever and I honestly think McCain can do more good in the Senate than the White House anyways with the situation as it sits now with the Dems having majorities in both houses.

You cringe at a conservative viewpoint? Yikes, how un-2nd amendment!

  • Kent

I agree with Elizabeth, inasmuch as I also was a McCain supporter, but the country has spoken and Obama has won. This is our great system in this country. I now stand behind President Obama, and hope he succeeds, because if he succeeds, we all do.

You are so delusional precious one. It was the Republicans who attacked, smeared and threw everything but the kitchen sink at Obama. Elizab*tch Hasselbeck was guilty of it too, just because she looks like a Barbie doesn’t make her sweet! I can see all through her 80 coats of Maybelline –she is a RACIST PIG!
Republicans are greedy, selfish, hate mongers and in the end CLASS and DIGNITY WON!
I know the old boy Republicans are pissed off, but the rest of CIVILIZATION is thrilled. So sorry to the few 30 or 40 old white men at McCain’s convention who had to watch the LOSER of ALL LOSER’s concede to a BLACK MAN the BETTER MAN!!!

  • Zow

Umm…Tom, do you mean First Amendment?

  • To Shutup

    You just proved Jay’s point.

  • Disappointed

I NEVER watch the View because those women embarrass me! Vicious and cruel to the end. They’re just jealous of Elisabeth because she’s beautiful, classy and young, unlike them. Your author, Abby West, would do well with the likes of them. I also will take note of all the advertisers for EW and stop patronizing them also. I was not a supporter of Obama because he was so far left of my own personal views, NOT because he’s black! Hey Whoops, do us a favor. Keep your bags packed if that’s how you’ve always felt about America.
