Topping my Must List with a giant, twirling umbrella: The video for adorable Danish pop group Alphabeat’s latest single, "What Is Happening?" yes! i’m so glad alphabeat is on your must list! they’ve been on mine since i got their album six months ago. but you liked to the wrong boyfriend video. the one you linked to is the video for the remixed version off their uk release. the original danish version (and video) is much better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HcnCusaFwk
OH my god… Alphabeat have been my favorite band since last March, when I first heard their Danish single, The Hours. Finally, whistling had a place in pop music again! And then there’s their brilliant UK singles Fascination (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8UxX5STKL4) and 10,000 Nights (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySHHdO-YTK4) which are just pure pop brilliance. They have been on my Must List for quite a while, I’m glad you here at EW have caught on! Hopefully they will hit big here in the US, too. (Along with Anastacia, for Slezak’s sake!)
Great video and fun song! Having taken a family vacation in Denmark two summers ago and being a fan of all things Scandinavian, I’m happy to learn of them. And thank you to the previous posters for the other links, which I’ll check out.
The biggest thing I’m into right now is Eddie Cahill on CSI: NY. He’s the real reason the show’s worth watching.
Chuck- This show is way better in its sophomore season and it is saving NBC from a dreadful monday night with the ever-fading Heroes.
That being said there are some saving graces to Heroes such as Robert Forster as the Papa Petrelli. And the character of Usutu in Africa really interested in his story.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia-IT is outrageous, clever, and absoltely stupid at the same time. This season has been the best.
the trailer for “the reader”
Can kate winslet finally get her oscar??
Fable II is on my must list. There is something cathartic in being able to sacrifice your spouse to the Temple of Shadows.
Must Heroine: Sarah Connor – some days, raising a teenager can feel like the end of the world. Now try raising your teenager to prevent the end of the world – no wonder Sarah Connor’s always ready to punch someone.
Must Single: “Take Back the City” by Snow Patrol. From the openning riff of the accoustic guitar, the Northern Irish rockers capture that cooling coffee, foot against the accelerator feeling of driving through empty streets at night -”I love this city tonight, I lovis the city always”.
Must Classic: The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera – between Russia’s invasion of Georgia and the most important US election in a decade, Kundera’s existential novel of a doctor, his wife and his lover caught up in the 1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia is a timely reminder of the fleeting nature of the freedoms we take for granted.
Must TV Show that Deserves Better Ratings: Eli Stone. This shown has picked up its entertaining meta-plot right where it left off last season.
Must Alternative Reality Novel: S. M. Stirling’s The Scourge of God. It’s the next step in wrapping up a saga that is in its third independent trology so far.
Must VG Expansion: World of Warcraft’s Wrath of the Lich King. Coming out November 17, millions of gamers are already salivating over the new possibilities for their “toons.”
My online must this week is manicattack.com. It’s a new comedy website where if you hate the characters you can vote the site to get rid of them! For once your opinion really counts. And there are some pretty funny things on there. I hope the site stays I would like to see what else this group can think of.
Topping my Must List for the past week or so has been a pair of YouTube “literal videos” posted by DustoMcNeato. I watch them several times a day and laugh every time.

Pink – Funhouse. Why isn’t she a bigger star?!?!
OMFG !! Annie Barrett I totally suggested YouTubing Alphabeat’s videos yesterday in Slezak’s Anastacia post!!! Glad to see someone was listening! I LOVE ‘EM!!!
Must Actress: Kate Winslet is finally back. Her two new movies (of which one will get her finally an Oscar, because it’s about friggin’ time) look amazing and will once more inspire critics and fans to call her the greatest actress of our time, and that Vanity Fair shoot marks her arrival as a sex symbol (again, it’s about friggin’ time).
Must retirement: Joaquin Phoenix said “bye, bye, bye” to Hollywood and wants to make a new career as a musician. To pass the time until his last movie “Two Lovers” hits cinemas, the release of his first CD and the announcement that he was just kidding or that the whole thing was taken out of context, I will wallow in self-pity over the loss of a great, hot actor by watching “Walk the Line” (it might even be a good watch for those who are sick of Witherspoon not making anything out of her talent, as newly proven with the very familiar-looking “Four Christmases”). After all, droping out and starting all over again, is pretty admirable.
Oscar season is starting to heat up, and so are talks of The Dark Knight getting a nomination for Best Picture. Comic book/super hero movies have steadily been becoming the most popular movies on the market in the last 8 years or so. I think it’s inevitable that they will be recognized for more than their technical aspects by the Academy. So why not have what is arguably the best comic book movie to date break ground and become the first one to be nominated for Best Picture? It’s more than deserving, which is why it’s on my MUST list for this week.
– “Kung Fu Panda” on DVD and Blu-Ray – For some strange reason, they have decided to release this on a Sunday, rather than the normal Tuesday, but that’s all for the better: No work on the weekends = more time to watch the best ‘toon to come out of DreamWorks since the original “Shrek.”
– Futurama: Bender’s Game on DVD – What better way to celebrate an Election Week that’s sure to usher in change either way, than to kick back with the new movie from the show that was once written by Kristin Gore, Al’s daughter?
– Get Smart on DVD – Steve Carell recovered from the atrocious “Evan Almighty” to give us this entertaining update on the Don Adams’ series, featuring killer supporting performances by Alan Arkin and future Oscar-nominee(?) Anne Hathaway.
Here’s what’s on my must list for this election to finally be over… no more election commericals. Let me hear a collective sigh and yes among all readers please.
Ben Affleck as Keith Olbermann on SNL made my weekend. Never was a big Ben fan but now I’ll give him a second chance.
Here’s my must list for the election to finally be over. No more election commercials….. please let me hear a collective sigh and yes from the readers.
oops
The music video for David Cook’s single, “Light On.” It’s visually stunning, and let’s face it – the man himself is HOT!
Make fun of me if you want to but on my must list is the New Kids on the Block concert tour. I went to the October 24th show in Chicago. The energy in that place was amazing and there wasn’t an empty seat in the building. For being almost 40 they still have “the right stuff”
The McDonald’s Monopoly Game is on my Must List! I’ve gained about 13 pounds and it’s a little harder to breathe, but I’ve got all but one of every property, and I feel the win a-comin’!
Coldplay’s Viva la Vida tour. They put on a fabulous show and played practically all the songs on their new album plus crowd-pleasers from past albums. Chris Martin dancing=freaking awesome!
Thanks for giving Alphabeat a shout out. They’re relatively unknown here in States which is too bad since I’m pretty sure we’d all be better off if we had more Europop in our lives. I don’t think its possible to feel down and out after listening to their song “Fantastic 6″. They’re unabashedly pop and in their case that’s a good thing.
-Viva La Hova…discovered thanks to Popwatch and has now been shared with my entire office. Pure genius from top to bottom.
-”Single Ladies” music video. I have to watch it at least once a day. It’s amazing, and the subtle Bob Fosse reference only makes it more awesome. B does it again!
-Blair & Chuck on Gossip Girl…I seriously would be okay with them dumping the rest of the cast and just focusing on the two of them. The fact that the sexual tensions is only going to continue to smolder is even better.
Just listening to that song embedded made me a little more happy. It’s adorable! I am definitely gonna check out more danish pop bands. Maybe…
On my must list?
Amy Poehler
Even though a new baby for Amy Poehler means bye-bye to SNL, we can always look back fondly on her historic characters, from the realistic (Hillary Clinton) to the pop culture-y (Christian from PR) to the plain hillarious (Bronx Beat, anybody?). Amy Poehler will be missed, but there is no way she’s going anywhere. Thanks to that top-secret, hush-hush pilot made by the geniuses from the office, she’ll be back in prime time in no time.
-Maybe Josh Schwartz should name all of his characters Chuck, because I can’t get enough of either Chuck Bass or Chuck Bartowski. Why do Gossip Girl and Chuck have to be on at the same time?
-I’m loving David Cook more than ever recently. He had a great performance on SNL, released snippets of all of the songs on his upcoming CD (cannot wait for that… 11/18), and just put out a hot music video. Yum!
Must Music Video: David Cook’s Light On-Nothing spectacular about it except that DC and the band totally rock their shots!
Must Save Show: Pushing Daisies-Everyone needs to watch before it gets canned! The show is too whimsical and original to be pulled.
Must Listen: Terra Naomi http://www.myspace.com/terranaomi Brilliant singer/songwriter that deserves to be heard. Her cover of Umbrella is breathtaking, along with original Say It’s Possible. ~For those in the LA area, Terra will be performing at Hotel Cafe on Thursday~
I forgot one!
Must Preview: David Cook’s debut album. You can now hear snippets of all the songs. I was underwhelmed by “Light On” as the first single, but based on this video I’m even more excited for the album!
