Polish up your taxi-mounted loudspeakers — Fame is back! EW’s Shirley Halperin spoke to Lauren Christy, the producer putting together new music for the upcoming remake of the classic 1980 musical (shooting starts next month), and although most of the songs will be new, the reboot will include updated versions of "Out Here on My Own" (sung by star Naturi Naughton), as well as Irene Cara’s seminal title track (clip below). Christy says a number of high-profile artists have inquired about singing the theme song and that her leading candidates are Christina Aguilera, Ashley Tisdale, and Alicia Keys. Keys could be good…Tisdale? Hmm…
Our short list would include Beyoncé, Pink, and Rihanna. Who would you like to see redo the song, PopWatchers?

I’ve had it in my mind for like 10 years now that Mariah should re-do the Fame theme song (one of my all time fave 80′s songs). It’s totally up her early 80′s inspirational dance music Glitter-loving alley! I’m not a huge Mariah fan but really she’s the only one I can see pulling it off, it just would go so perfect with her other schlocky (I mean that in the best sense of the word) songs like “Make It Happen”, “Anytime You Need a Friend”, and “There’s Got To Be A Way.”
Uuhhh… why does it have to be a famous singer? Irene Cara certainly wasn’t when the original film debuted, so why not let the new Coco have her own shot at “Fame”?

While I do like the idea of Pink, Irene Cara was actually in the movie though I’m blanking as to whether the character actaully sang the song as opposed to it playing over the end. Shouldn’t it be whomeover is playing the character Coco? If not, then why not revamp the song totally. Why does it have to be a female signing? Why not take it in a more (or even less) oriented direction.
And I meant singing, not signing.
