Sam Jackson in 'Last Dragon' redo? Sho'nuff!

Samuel L. Jackson has just been cast as the urban martial arts bad-ass Sho’nuff for Columbia Pictures’ upcoming remake of Berry Gordy’s 1985 cult classic The Last Dragon. Watch the clip below (featuring the late Julius Carry as Sho), then close your eyes and envision the greatness that will be Samuel L. as the Shogun of Harlem (even if he does seem a bit old for the part).

This could be a fun flick. And while I don’t care who is cast in Taimak’s role (so long as it’s not Jet Li), I do wonder who’ll take Vanity’s part. Thoughts?

i think i just peed myself after reading the headling. Last Dragon is one of my favorite movies. I have vivid memories of acting this movie out in my basement with my brother and cousins. As I was the only girl, i had to play angie and laura charles.
Sam Jackson would be a PERFECT sho’nuff. Make it happen, peeps!!!!

this is the thing I didn’t know I wanted of the day…

  • ShoNuff

i’m already in mourning for its ruining of my favorite awful-fabulous movie…i’m looking for the master

  • Astro Boy

    Why remake this?

  • TAYENYC

I say Chris Brown as Bruce Leroy and Rihanna in the Vanity role.

  • KRIS

LAST DRAGON IS ONE THE HOTTEST MOVIES EVER FROM THE OLD SCHOOL KUNG FU FANS AND RZA DIRECTING IT THAT IS GOING TO BE HOT I CANT WAIT TO SEE WHO IS GOING TO PLAY BRUCE LEROY. HOT HOT HOT CANT WAIT FOR THIS COME OUT I HOPE THEY REALLY HYPE IT UP TO. HERE’S TO BRINGING BACK THE CLASSICS

Has anyone been to Taimak’s website? Did he get lighter? Anyway, now he looks hotter than he was in the film!
    Chris Brown as Bruce Leroy,clearly.

As much as I love the idea of Sam Jackson as Sho’nuff they are going to ruin the great awfulness of the Last Dragon by casting someone lame like Chris Brown and Rhianna as Leroy Green and Laura Charles. I’m so sad now. I’m going to listen to the Rhythm of the Night now to ease my blues.

ugh…as much as I love Sam, I just do not want to see them ruin this flick for me. But hey – if they’re going to age Sho’Nuff, why not keep Taimak on as Leroy? He STILL looks (damn) good!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! The Last Dragon was one of those horrible great movies that can never be redone. And Sam Jackson is TOO old to be The ShoGun of Harlem. That is a one of a kind film and it can’t be redone. Why is Berry Gordy allowing this to happen, why. I just got my neice to fall in love with it and now she is going to grow up with a horrible remake, so sad.

If I was doing the casting, I’d have Nick Cannon for Bruce LeeRoy and Rosario Dawson for Vanity. And is Taimak out of the closet yet?

  • Kizzy

I love this movie and I hate that they are remaking it. Yeah Sam Jack is a bit on the old side but Sho Nuff was no spring chicken either.

whoever plays Vanity has to be seductive. I first thought of Beyonce (or Sasha–lol) when i remembered that she sings, but I would actually prefer Lauren London (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1988575/). As for the lead, there aren’t that many young African American guys who know martial arts in Hollywood. I mean, if you pick Marlon Wayans, it’ll seem like a parody (also, I would rather see him as Shonuff). Elijah Kelley (Hairspray) and Columbus Short (Stomp the Yard) are too…short. Chris Brown and Tristan Wilds (“90210″) are too young. And I can’t take Nick Cannon seriously (especially not since he married Mariah Carey). So who’s left?

I knida glad there redoing this its my favorite of all times but dont yall think busta rhymes would be a lil better fit for the sho nuff part all i can see is Sam being not aggressive enough because I loved shonuff in this movies I think it should be imitated perfectly

  • Angy

NO!!! IT’S A CLASSIC! CALLED THE LAST DRAGON FOR A REASON! I’m a little irritated by this….. my favorite movie of all time, and now they want to butcher it with a remake?! ….my heart pains….

  • Corey

Yo, i love sam but he’s not the one for this part. He’s just a lil to old for it, and even though he has a distinctive voice, that we all know and love, i cant imagine it for the role of Sho Nuff…Now, i have been thinking a lot about this, and have finally come up with the perfect actor for the part…Jamie Foxx! Yes, Jamie Foxx. He has the talent to incorperate all the aspects of the original Sho Nuff, as well as bring new life to the character. Of course he’s funny, but he is also one of the best and most believable actors to date. The one thing we dont want for this movie is for it to be a bust…Or for it to not have us feeling the way we did about the original. Which is exactly why with Jamie playing this role, the movie would be guarenteed not to disappoint.

  • Edmond

YOOOOO!!! Thats perfect! Jamie Foxx is a great fit for the role Corey! No disrespect, but i really couldnt picture Sam’s old ass as Sho Nuff. Last Dragon was one of my favorite movies…and picturing him as that role kills it for me. He’s not the right kind of funny, his voice is just wrong for it…i would seriously be in the theater thinking, “you sound nothing like Sho Nuff!” And it would bother me the entire time. Just like Sam didnt do it for me in Shaft, he may not pull this role off…meaning, another classic, RUINED!!!
