Angela Bassett was great and I would to see her in another good role. One thing in her favor is that “What’s Love” is constantly played on TBS or TNT or USA, and has been seen a lot more often than any of the rest.
Of the Academy’s nominees, I’d give a slight edge to Emma Thompson over Holly Hunter, probably because overall I liked “Remains” significantly better than “Piano”. Thompson also gave a quietly tragic performance which touched me more. As for other overlooked performances: loved Julia Roberts in “The Pelican Brief”; but my choice for Best Actress that year was Michelle Pfeiffer for “The Age of Innocence”, a Scorsese masterpiece which deserved alot more recognition than it got. As for Holly Hunter, I would have given her the Supporting Actress Oscar–she was truly a knockout in “The Firm”.
I hope Angela Bassett finally wins the award for her amazing portrayal of Tina. She played the hell out of that role!
Are you kidding me none of the others come close to providing the kind of stellar performance by Mrs Bassett. She is in my opinion the one and only contender worthy of the oscar .Her performance was beyond acting in whats love got to do with it and oh my not to mention waiting to exhale. She is in my opinion the queen of tinsel town.
Angela or Thompson.
ANGELA BASSETT all the way !! She deserves it!

Angela Bassett, she did won that Oscar to me, she earn it like totally. they couldn’t stand out and forget she’s a black woman and so they gave it to somebody else like hunter, just too bac, im not black i am latina american.
Angela Bassett’s performance was hands down the best. She deserved to win that oscar. But then again a lot of people have been robbed of what they deserved at the oscars. Go Angela you are phenomenal you dont need the oscar elite to tell you that.
