omg! richard armitage would be amazing. he'd have to work on acting a little more chipper though. it's the doctor nature. if the doctor is ever a woman, i think i'll kill myself. the doctor can't be a woman. it's the doctor! he's just...always a man. he may be a different species but he's still male.

Personally I think we need a change from Tall and Dark. Hence the suggestion of Malcolm McDowell. The whole point of a regeneration is the Doctor becoming strikingly different. So long as it is not different as in Colin Baker or Sylvester McCoy, then any change is good!!

I will be very sorry to see David Tennant leave, but would like to suggest Richard Armitage - he does tall, dark and grumpy beautifully...Surely we will need some contrast to tall, dark and hyperactive??? I bet a lot of women would concur.

If you want a really different Doctor how about the established Movie Actor Malcolm McDowell. He would certainly be ambiguous because he usually plays charismatic Sci Fi villains (for instance he played baddie Toleen Soren in the film Star Trek Generations). And he certainly fits the bill of older and quirkier looking

I nominate Peter Wingfield. I think he would pleasantly surprise everyone. I admit I wasn't sure about David Tennant when he started, but he changed my mind pretty quickly. This is a hard one, though. I'll give ya that. I just don't see going for the obvious. Not going for the obvious is what keeps Who interesting.

Paddy Considine is my favorite contender for the 11th doctor. He has Eccleston's broodiness, Tennant's quirkiness and his own sense of self. He is menacing without necessarily being scary. He is also one of the best actor of his generation.
My other choice would be Mark Strong. I know he is more "vilain material" but those of you who have seen him in tv shows such as "Walk away and I stumble" or in Guy Ritchie's RocknRolla knows that he could make a great ambiguous and humane doctor.

Would love it to be either Simon Pegg, Richard Coyle,Robert Glenister or MacKenzie Crook. Steven Moffat has said that the handsome leading man thing is all plaid out and he wants someone 40 plus and a bit weird looking to stress the Doctors alien background. Much as I would love any of the above the smart money appears to be on the first black Doctor. If they are going to go that route I would suggest the American comedian Reginald D Hunter. He has me in absolute fits of laughter with his dry delivery!!
