A new trailer for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince needs no preamble, so let’s watch and then discuss after the jump, cool?
So first things first, of course: What on first(blink-and-you-miss-it) glimpse looked to me like Ron Weasley gettingall romantic with Hermione — and Potter-heads everywhere know why thisis sacrilege — is on second (and third, fourth, andeleventieth) viewing what appears to be the beginning of Ron’s longawaited snog-fest with fellow student Lavender Brown.Otherwise, we get words of ominous portent from Dumbledore, and a lotof quick-cut action — including shots from what appears to be an attackon the Weasley home by Lord Voldemort’s Death Eaters. (Before youPotter-heads cry foul, yes, the sequence — first reported by JeffJensen in EW’s now-infamous Fall Movie Preview cover story on the film — is not in the book, but author J.K. Rowling gave it her blessing.)
My favorite part of this international trailer, however, is easilythe post-title-card kicker, the first real glimpse of light-heartedlevity in what has otherwise looked to be quite the dark and gloomyfilm; check out the (bonus) first teaser trailer embedded below to seewhat I mean.
What do you think, PopWatchers? Does the sixth Potter film look like it will be worth the (excruciatingly protracted) wait?

watching this makes me upset that it’s not coming out during thanksgiving. oh well! movie looks great and I can’t wait to see some hot snogging action. so pumped!
Oh my Lord. It looks beyond awesome. I wish they had kept more of the scenes from the book instead of adding things, but it will be amazing no matter what! How can I wait until July?
now i’m about 20,000x more depressed it’s not coming out until july! but that last hermione/harry bit looked hilar – i legit squealed. CAN.NOT.WAIT.
Thank You, Steve Kloves… for returning and making Hermoine awesome again…
the thing is this book isnt that gloomy really. its actually pretty mellow and educational. only at the end does it turn sour.
I know we say it every year, but we’ve got to say it again:
“This looks like the best one yet!”
(Yes, the comedy at the end was a particularly nice touch)
(and yes, I needed to freeze-frame two kids kissing to actually see who it was)
It was going to be turkey, football, and Hogwarts; Damn, you Warner Bros!
I think I can rest easy, knowing that they’ve done (what appears to be) a pretty good job.
I can’t wait.
Great trailer. Great kicker. Am already looking forward to it.
I. CAN’T. WAIT. The sixth book has always been my favorite, and I’m so pleased with what I’ve seen of the film footage thus far!
Wow!! I can’t wait to see this movie!!
I absolutely loved the bit at the end with Harry and Hermione. I think it’s going to be great, I really love what David Yates did with Order of the Phoenix and I’m glad he’s signed on to finish the series.
OMG I’M SO EXCITED!!! i’m just really sad that Sirius won’t be in it, I love Gary Oldman. I know he’s technically not in the 6th one, but i’m hoping for a flashback). Hope he comes back for the last one
HBP officially looks 80% more awesome than OoTP. With a side of awesomesauce.
I am in love with this trailer, and even more heartbroken that the movie is not coming out in November. This is like a cruel tease, with so many months of waiting to go.
Ron is snogging with Lavendar, not Hermione. I love the bit at the end with Harry and Hermione, I think she is the only one he could make that statement to, about being the Chosen One.
Looks good.
It’d be nice if it appeared that the director had really read and cared about the story – as opposed to the special effects.
Yeah, I really miss Chris Columbus – that is, I miss the old days when the movie bore some relation to the book.
quiddicth is back yeay
This year??! THIS year??!!! What the hell, it SHOULD be this year dammit!!!
*lots of grumbling…*
WOW!!! Loved it! And thanks to that last bit, my inappropriate crush on Daniel Radcliffe has zoomed to stratospheric levels. Could he be any more adorable? Too bad I’m old enough to be his….very cool aunt….or something….
heyyy i loved the trailer but one thing …thats why is it showing this year when its releasing next july 2009…?
Can’t wait!!!!
That was…weird. Very dark and gloomy (and a weird shot of Dumbledore and some flames that looked mighty similar to Gandalf in LOTR), and then a random spot of humor at the end. Just…odd. I think I liked the one playing earlier this year better.
Dan Radcliffe could not be any cuter! Hermoine is the person he could joke about that to. The levity will be much appreciated when dealing with the darker tones in the movie. It looks fantastic
Jen 80, I agree. I thought I was watching a LOTR clip for about 5 seconds. And the previous trailer told a better mini-story, this one is a compilation of shots.
(They look good, but are kind of meaningless without a non-generic story to the trailer)
Once again, I weep that this will not come out next month but next year.
-Harry Potter acting like a flirt is perfect because he is 16 and it fits.
-It looks like Belatrix is back. Perfect
-Draco’s hair is the best it’s been since the 2nd movie. I am so happy, you have no idea.
-What about Harry’s snogfest with Ginny? Just sayin…
-Quidditch is back! I think the 5th one, erm sorry for the term, sucked because there was none. They tried to be dark but it was a mess. Here, it looks like they will follow the book well enough. Maybe it’ll be vingettes, but I am still thinking this will best the best HP movie since movie 2.
I still love Lil’Voldemort. I just think he’s pleasantly evil.
The first trailer I LOVE and gets me all excited…this one not so much. Honestly, HBP is my least favorite book but the pensieve stiff looks awesome. Plus, I must admit I hope they do the Ron/Hermoine post-poisoning reunion scene(s) well.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My brain just exploded with it’s sheer awesomeness.
Awesome!!!!!
Fantastic!!!!!
But it should have been next month not next year.
