From the invaluable Baseball Almanac: a year-by-year history of the Fall Classic, with sturdy recaps of each series as well as line and box scores for each game. I learned that in the 1918 Cubs-Red Sox contest, "Boston’s pitchers had combined for an impressive 1.70 ERA and Chicago’s boasted an even better 1.04." Of course, a key player in the Sox championship — which would begin a miserable 86-year drought — was a young hurler named Babe Ruth. On a quick sidenote: I’ve been to two World Series game — I sat in the uppermost reaches of Veterans Stadium at games 1 and 6 of the 1980 series and watched the Phillies beat the Kansas City Royals. Spectacular. So it shouldn’t come as any surprise that I’m rootin’ for the Phils. (That was a crazy game on Saturday night/early Sunday morning — I loved seeing Tampa Bay’s five-man infield in the ninth.) But, honestly, if they were playing any other team, I’d be cheering on them scrappy Rays. Anybody else out there watching this series? And if so, who are you rootin’ for?

I’m watching! GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!! (Although, if the NL team wasn’t my beloved Phils, I’d be rooting for TB too. Gotta love an underdog like them.) It’s been so long since Philly won a title of ANY kind…
Watching from CA and rooting for the Rays.
Watching right here right now from Philly and of course rooting for the Phillies! Last night’s game was so nerve-wracking but so worth the sleep deprivation. Curse you Upton!
Watching from Boston and rooting for the Rays! Carlos Pena is a Massachusetts guy after all!

Transplanted San Franciso-ite and, now that the Evil Spawn Is Evil have been retired, rooting safely for the National League. Go Phillies!
I’m in St.Petersburg , Fl home of the Tampa Bay Rays so of course I’m rooting for them . It’s not looking good for them now but I still stand by them as I always have . This year WS has been fun since I have a team I care for in it.
I am very new to baseball and wondering why it is called ‘World Series’ when only American teams take part? Thanks for your time.
Wilmington, DE native living in Chapel Hill, NC. GO PHILLIES!!!! Was at the game (if you can call it a game) last night. Had an 8 am flight out of Philly and back in NC. Bud Selig has the worst judgement ever. If you started the game at 7:05 pm like you would during the regular season, you could have fit the game in before the downpour.
