Afternoon, PopWatchers. Hopefully by now you’ve digested your lunch, because it’s time to play "What part of last night’s Fringe made you lose your dinner?"
Yes, I think it’s safe to say this episode topped even the face-melting pilot in terms of nastiness, what with all the bleeding eyes, exploding heads, and abundant skeeziness of Chris "Digger Stiles" Eigeman (in the form of villain Dr. David Esterbrook). I know I immediately regretted my dinner of spaghetti and meatballs after watching an entire diner full of patrons get their brains boiled by a human microwave. Then, one of the female customers went kablooey, and a few minutes later, we were treated to a nice, stomach-turning view of what remained of her head. Of course, seeing a poor rat (it didn’t even have hair!) suffer the same fate might have been worse. (I know, I know, it happened under a sheet. That doesn’t make it any better, and I’m sure PETA would agree.) So, since I can’t decide which scene was most vomitrocious, let’s put it to a vote. (And if you missed all the grossness, we’ve captured some stomach-turning screengrabs, which you can find after the jump!)

What about when Walter shoves the meat thermometer in the dude’s ear?
That was wicked gross.
I kept having to change the channel. I really might have to stop watching this show. It’s nasty!
I’m with Liz, that meat thermometer did it for me.
I had such high hopes for this show…but have given it up for good.
I third the write-in nomination:
MEAT THERMOMETER SLAMMED IN EAR.
I just wanted to say Boo on this show. The subpar X-Files stories, the extremely annoying character of Walter…And now this blatent rip-off of a bad Heroes plotline. Isn’t it a little early in this show to be ripping other shows off? Also, I think all this gross out stuff (which really isn’t that gross) is just trying to distract us from the fact that this show ain’t that good!
I agree – THE MEAT THERMOMETER IN THE EAR!!! – mostly because of the sound
The meat thermometer was sickening and I cringed when I heard the crunch. That was topped by the remnants of the girl’s head on the table. I can stomach a lot (CSI is effectively responsible for that) but this episode was just too much and the missing head on the table was the last straw. I kept screaming, “The girl has no head!” at the TV. By the time the rat got to exploding, I just felt like a deer in headlights, staring straight ahead.
I haven’t seen the last few episodes because I’ve been watching The Mentalist, planning to catch up with Fringe on Hulu. But if they’re going to have episodes that are completely gross (and, seemingly, gratuitously so) then I might just skip the “catching up” part.
To Scott K:
Maya’s ability on Heroes was the first thing that came to mind when everyone’s eyes bled, though the exploding head definitely surprised me. FX has gotten pretty damn convincing in this decade.
I wasn’t too bothered by the thermometer crunching (though I still cringed a bit) or the visual of the woman with her head gone. Watching too many House episodes and Saw sequels desensitized me, but it’s still pretty graphic. Even Dexter shows more restraint, and that show’s about a serial killer for god’s sake.
After the rat crawled under the blanket, I said aloud in my apartment alone, “Was that necessary?”
But by far this new TV season the thing that has grossed me out the most on was the victim on “Bones” who was smeared between the elevator and the shaft – seriously?
I was grossed out by the fact they misspelled “breakfast” (“breakast”) on both the door and window at Holly’s Diner!
I was eating a meatball parm during the diner scene. I had to stop, watch Big Bang instead, and finish Fringe later.

I think fringe is a great show. And is by far one of my favourites. I don’t think its gory at all and im 14 years old!
if you lot can’t stomach the gore then you shouldn’t be watching it.
These days its hard to find a gory show that’s on at a reasonable time, so i was really happy when i came across fringe
