Have You Seen This?: Fainting Goats!

An actual breed of domesticated goats found in North America, fainting goats (also known as nervous goats, stiff-leg goats, wooden-leg goats, and Tennessee scare goats) have a genetic disorder that causes younger animals to stiffen up and keel over.  These goats never lose consciousness, they only look as if they’ve fainted: after a few moments, they pop back up and go about their normal, um, goat-ly business. And,yes, it saddens us to learn that we missed — by just a few weeks — the World Champion Fainting Goat Show in Lewisburg, TN. Maybe next year.

Actually, they were featured last year on “Dirty Jobs”, one of the most hilarious episodes ever…

There was a Mythbusters episode about the goats a while ago.

Old news. :) Mythbusters did it first.

They are definitely fun to play with when your are like 8 or 9. My neighbor had some growing up.

It constantly amazes me that people don’t know about fainting goats. I’ve known about them for years! They’re awesome! And I don’t own goats, know anything about goats, or even grow up on a farm. There’s no excuse for knowing about them other than the wonder that is the internet and documentaries on cable.

Wow, i thought it read “farting goats” and i’m watching the video going. Why aren’t they farting? But faiting goats are just as hilarious.

This was on Barstool Sports in Boston a few months ago.

    Aw, poor little goats.

This was referenced in a movie ages ago, it’s driving me crazy. The guy wants to tell his girlfriend/wife about the fainting goats but she’s either not herself (like “Prelude to a Kiss”) or they’re not yet reunited from a break-up. Anyone remember???

My friend has some fainting goats. They are pretty entertaining. I didn’t realize they were that unfamiliar to people though.

ijr, I thought that, too! I have to figure this out!

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves. Piedmont Pets is reaching out to ask for your help in spreading the word about our Photo Contest. We are hoping to have many hits and, most importantly, receive lots of new pics for the Piedmont Pets Photo Contest. We’ve changed the judging format and now let the public choose the winner! What we would like now is for all your bloggers (and your friends’ bloggers) who have little ones in the house (and, yes, we mean cats and dogs) not only to send a photo but also cast their vote.
So, we hope that you’ll take the time to look at our site, and choose one of your best shots from the pictures you’ve already taken and send it in. It’ll be fun!
    Your friendly pet-pics team,
