Site of the Day: NFL Stadium Rankings

Categories: Sports, Tech, Web/Tech

What? Sports aren’t entertainment? Our colleagues at SI.com have put together a list that ranks the 32 stadiums (or, stadia) that are currently home to NFL teams. Fans across the country — about a third of them season-ticket holders — completed an online survey in which they rated their local facility in several categories, including affordability, tailgating, and atmosphere: it was from these results that the rankings were made. First place (again, they topped the list in last year’s inaugural poll): Lambeau Field; home to the Green Bay Packers. A good and sensible selection. I happen to be fan of both this team (even during those pre-Favre days of Dan Majkowski and Tony Mandarich) as well the Philadelphia Eagles (an affair that ended with hurt feelings fifteen years ago, and was rekindled over the last five). What? A guy can’t love two NFL teams at the same time? What are your favorite NFL teams?  Do you think that the league-average price of $75/ticket is too high?  And to keep this somewhat PopWatch-related: what is, um, your favorite football movie?

    GO EAGLES!!!!
Favorite football movie: obviously, Invincible. I remember when they would show previews for it, people would start doing the Eagles fight song in the theater. Which was awesome.

  • Diana

I second the Eagles! I’m from Philly but have moved to Charlotte over the last few years and miss going to home games something fierce :(

  • Diana

Oops – didn’t answer the movie question. Surprisingly I haven’t seen Invicible yet (though I’m sure I’ll love it), but Remember The Titans.

  • Michelle

Go Eagles!!!! My other team is the Colts though. As far as football movies go I love Invincible (obviously) and Little Giants.

  • KLF

Cowboy Fan for Life! Go Boys!
Favorite Football Movie: North Dallas Forty. The opening scene with Nick Nolte crawling out of bed to flashbacks of the hits he took the night before, was great.

  • Sara

Go Steelers! Being from Pittsburgh, of course, there is no other answer. Heinz Field isn’t so bad…at least the corporate name is a fitting one that ‘burgers are proud of and the city has a great view of what Al Michaels so often refers to as the “confluence” and downtown…the only flaw is the blinding yellow color of the seats…ah, well.

  • Sara

ps, the EAGLES fan author of this article neglected to mention that Heinz field came in number two, baby!

  • Bella

Diana, see Invincible immediately! Of course it’s Eagles-centric, which makes it a must-see by itself…but it’s also a great story with great acting and some really neat cinematography. I especially love how they filmed the actual football scenes and the different perspectives they used–very cool. I always tear up at the end :)
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES! (and also Phillies!!! Go Phils!!)

  • Crystal

Rudy & Remember the Titans. I also really liked the way Invincible was filmed, it really made you feel like you were in Philly on the 70s. I’m in L.A. and thus cannot comment on NFL stadiums :(

  • james

I seriously was immediately thinking of Little Giants (I have a soft spot/guilty pleasure for those Mighty Ducks/HeavyWeights/Little Giants type movies). I can’t believe someone else mentioned it.
    Just… one… time!

  • james

Oops – but I forgot to mention my “real” favorite – Oliver Stone’s massively underappreciated “Any Given Sunday.”

  • Jelana

Oh, all the EAGLES love here is heartwarming. The only thing I don’t like about Lincoln Financial Field (the “Linc” to you outsiders) is how hard it is to get tickets. And, Wook, it’s ok to love the Packers too (as long as you don’t root for them against the Birds), but NOT ok to turn your back on the team just because of a few bad years. GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!

  • Kaiulani

Go RAIDERS! Nice OT win this afternoon. Their stadium is a pretty scary place through. As for my movie… I loved “Friday Night Lights”.

  • Rachel K

Go Pack! I’m not surprised to see Lambeau field top the list. I’m a packer fan that lives in Florida and there’s a group of 30 of us who found each other and now we meet to watch the games together each week. You can’t stop the cheesehead love; it’s everywhere! Favorite football movie has to be Remember the Titans. I know that it’s not completely accurate but I get chills every time I see Denzel Washington give that speech on hallowed ground at Gettsyburg.

  • Annabelle

I’m currently shopping for a new favorite NFL team, since my Detroit Lions are pretty f’n miserable. Any suggestions?

  • Nancy

This Colts fan grudgingly says congrats to all you Packers fans for yesterday’s win. I haven’t seen many football movies, but Rudy is great, and a classic.

  • Winona

I am a Bears and Rams fan – and yes, $75 for a ticket to a game is INSANE. I’d love to take my daughter to a football game at some point, but to take a family to a game would cost more than a car payment.
And for the record, Rudy is the most awesome football movie ever.

  • lee-ann

Cowboy fan through and through (even after Sunday’s lost). As such, a little dissapointed they are leaving Texas Stadium. Had a chance to tour it, the history is so rich. It will be missed next season. Fav Football movie: All of them, but I stop to watch Rudy and Remember the Titans whenever it’s on.

  • Maddi

I will always love my New York Giants first and foremost, but I cheer for the Steelers and the Colts every Sunday as well.

  • Rob Grizzly

    Go Cowboys!
I’m gonna miss the classic Texas Stadium. Their numbers should go up next year after the new facilities their getting.
    Favorite Football Movie: Rudy. Easily.
Favorite Football movie That’s Actually About Football: Friday Night Lights.

  • Alex in Milwaukee

    go pack go!

  • aps

The Linc really is a great stadium. Tickets are too expensive and hard to get (although…they will never go down…especially for the eagles), but the place really is pretty awesome to be in…even without a game going on.
That being said…i support the eagles, but right now…it’s all PHILS!!! go phillies!!!
p.s. citizen’s bank park where the phillies play is an absolutely beautiful park to watch a game in too. new, clean, comfy, on top of the action, close to the field no matter where you sit. good stuff.

  • Lily

Agreed, the Linc is awesome…and so is Citizens Bank Park! Great, great place to watch baseball. GO PHILLIES!!!!!! WORLD SERIES 08!!!

  • Jess

The Steelers are #1 in my heart, but I’ve got a soft spot for da’Bears.
And my favorite football movie is Little Giants, as I am still 12 years old on the inside.

  • snarky

    Fav team : EAGLES!
    Fav movie: Friday Night Lights.
FNL on TV is also great, but not for the football, for the acting
